My daughter and son in law and 3 boys (12,15, and 17) have been out of power since THURSDAY in the Harper area in central Texas. They have been sleeping in the living room with a fireplace and cooking on a gas stove. They are running a generator to the water well to have cold water in the house and to the livestock. The electric co-op cannot give them a time when power will be restored. Others in that area from Harper to Fredericksburg have the same problem. They have faired well but my daughter has just about had enough of the pioneer woman lifestyle but she loves the family time they have had. They have livestock to tend to otherwise they would have left for better conditions. Neighbors are helping neighbors and they are looking after the older folks in the area in the same situation. Tough times that will be remembered forever. Anyone else been out that long?

10 days after Hurricane Ike, if portable backup power doesn't count.

Was without power for just shy of 3 weeks after Hurricane Harvey. 13 days with no water, then it was very limited. Hot & sweaty, no baths, little food, & lots of work and helping others. We slept in chairs in blown apart houses, in driveways, in our vehicles, and if lucky in a camper. All food was cooked outside with fire or generator power providing you had gas to run the generators. I went 2 1/2 weeks before I could take a shower. LOL.

8 days after a hurricane through Houston. It was hot and muggy, The wife and kids went to the ranch and cooked steaks, while I had to go to the office. It was miserable, but no danger of freezing.

After the Christmas tornado a few years back we lost power for awhile don’t remember how long but it would come on for minutes at a time and then quit again. Seemed like weeks but was probably just a few days. It was a good learning experience and it taught me a lot about how to prepare for what we see now. I still see a few holes in my preparedness but am light years ahead of everyone else around me. The one failure I ran into was my plan to use the little hand warmers to put on the outside faucets and meter every 8 hours. Bought them a week ago and not a damn one of them will even get above room temp. Have run into that with old ones but these were brand new. Oh....and times like these people tend to notice you have a pretty impressive stack of wood. I could have made a fortune but have given damn near all of it away. Held a little back to get through the next few nights.

Lots of work goes into cutting/splitting/stacking wood, but when a neighbor/family/friend is without power & wood/wrapped up in blankets shivering in their house with kids trying to stay warm.... I'm not taking your money, so stop trying to stick chit in my pockets for crying out loud I have been blessed, I believe in giving back when I can.

Does camping count? Lol This is the longest we’ve gone without power (had a little Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday intermittently) but been out for good for almost 48hrs. I have a camper that I could hook my generator to and have everything I need but it’s almost 4 hours away at the damn deer lease! If I didn’t have to work Thursday we’d be heading out there in the morning.

An hour maybe. It’s been on for 25 minutes, off for 35 minutes for the last 2 days/nights. But the house 2 doors up hasn’t had power in over 24 hours because something happened with the power distribution box in his front yard. The poor electric company has been there 20+ hours trying to fix it.

Back in 2004 we lived in the rural panhandle. After a big snow storm we were without power for 9 days. We lived a half mile from pavement and the road was so bad you couldn't make it at times in a 4WD pickup. We even got tractors stuck on that road. We were newlyweds with an infant and tried to tough it out. We stayed there without power for nearly nine days and finally drove to Plainview and got a motel so we could shower as we had no water at our house. I had just finished carrying all of our things into the motel room when our nearest neighbors called and said the power was back on.

So far this experience has been the longest w/o power not supplied by generator(s). We luckily didn’t have power issues during Harvey. Also no cell tower issues. Our area is nowhere near the worst, but it’s been an adjustment being with our power and water since Saturday night. I still haven’t figured out why some neighborhoods have it and some don’t?

In this mess? Power was off for 7 hours, on for 4 hours, off for 20 hours, on for 7, off for 2.
In 1989 we lost power for a week after a severe storm damaged my mom's house. They said straight line winds, but those winds were swirling. I was 14 and was outside at one point... whatever it was picked up the roof and put it back down. Ceiling in the garage and living room came crashing in next.

Coming up on 48 hours. One thing I’ve learned, no matter how dang well built and sturdy this house is, it sure is NOT energy efficient and/or sealed up. She’s a drafty old fart. These energy loss areas will be addressed

My wife lost power at 2am Monday and it was off until 5am Tuesday. She went home Tuesday around 8am and as far as I know still has power. I've been at work since 4am Sunday, haven't lost power yet but we make our own.
18 days after Ike. I will take 10 days without power in freezing weather over 2 days in 100° weather.

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Two weeks...as a result of that fair maiden, Hurricane Alicia. My dad lost a beautiful 30 lb amberjack he was going to have mounted.

I`d rather be luck than good. My power went out back in the summer. The man showed up without a call. Several more showed up with cable and a transformer. They ran a cable about 300 yards long to my power supply. More men showed up with a trencher and by the end of the day, I felt as if I was the luckiest man in the world.

This time we’ve been without power since 11am on Monday. All elect house so we’ve been sitting in front of the fireplace. Will be out of wood today. 60 degrees in front of the fireplace and 50 throughout the rest of the house. Will empty the deep freeze later and place outside. Stuff is still slightly frozen right now. All this sucks, especially with a bad knee.

1.5 hours, been in rolling blackouts since Monday at 2am. It's usually on for 1 hour and off for 1 hour.
Back in the late 70's was out a week due to ice.
