I don't even know what Colt makes anymore. Overpriced ARs, three different models of revolvers, 1911s, and the old Colt 1903 pocket pistol. I can't really think of anything else. I think Colt found out the hard way that government contracts are not where you make your money, the US civilian Market is where your cash comes in and Colt pulled an HK and began acting like elitist. That pretty much cut their throats for profits.

I know nothing of the gun trade, but figured govt. contracts would be cash cows. I know in my field we make significantly more off govt. clients than we do civilians.

Yep they have finalized the purchase. How ironic an old eastern bloc country now owns the company that made or invented a major portion of the guns they fought against.

I think Colt found out the hard way that government contracts are not where you make your money, the US civilian Market is where your cash comes in and Colt pulled an HK and began acting like elitist. That pretty much cut their throats for profits. Colt has been struggling for many years, they just never seemed to be able to get out of the cage they built for themselves. They could have dominated the single action pistol market but but Ruger yanked that right out from under them, same goes for the double action revolver market, Smith and Wesson left them in the dust. They never really competed in the rifle or shotgun market and their semi auto pistols just wasn't as good and reliable as others on the market. You can only live off a name for so long, kind of like drilling one oil well and thinking your in the oil business forever. You have to keep producing!

Jobs and production have been going oversee where it’s easier to be profitable/competitive. Now that it’s a gun company you notice? Changes can start at the penis breathe politician’s that continually screw us.

Not a bad thing. CZ 1911’s are far better than anything colt put out after series 70. CZ makes incredible rifles. CZ is a good quality producing company.

I'll disagree a bit here. I've owned a few CZ rimfires and never had one that shot worth a darn. My 10/22 with GM barrel would outshoot all the CZ bolt guns I've had, easily. CZ does make a decent pistol, but so does Colt. I have a recent 2012 or 2013 I think build Series 80 1911 that's absolutely fantastic. Doesn't jam, great trigger, very accurate, price was reasonable...what more could you want?
Colt's 6920 is one of the cornerstones of the AR-15 market. I'm not sure why they can't make money, but criticizing the quality of their firearms, IMHO, is misguided. Especially compared to CZ

Patriot I was thinking about the fact that Dan Wesson is CZ-USA. The entry level Dan Wessons are at least as good as the mid level Colts. Of course they don’t have facilities to produce on the scale Colt does but if they will just carry their quality standards over to the Colt facility I call it a win. Rock Island shames entry level colts these days. I prefer my Ruger over the mid level colts. I’ll likely never own any of the expensive ones made by anyone so I have no idea of the top level Colt 1911s.
Getting off topic here but Ruger hit a home run with the titanium firing pin and heavier spring giving you a drop proof series 70. I’ve yet to canniblize one of my series 80s but it’s going to happen. Way too many moving parts to pull the trigger and it be decent.

There are lots of black-world projects which every freshman congressman (think The Squad) doesn't need to know about, and they are often funded by those over-priced toilet seats and hammer handles. In the USAF, I once worked on a project which got it's funding from over-priced widgets in an Army project.

Colt offered low quality for high prices, market responded again. It can only get better for Colt.

Did not know that - if DW can take the Colt name and offer DW performance at reasonable prices, it'll be gangbusters.

It was better in every aspect. RIA makes a hell of a gun for the money. I’ll take CZ over colt 6 days a week and twice on Sunday. They are iconic and American. I do have a special place for a 6920, but colt has been surpassed by many.
