Can someone explain the attraction for the 5.7X28? Glorified, centerfired 22mag that people are paying 2-3 dollars a round for ammo. Sometimes I just don’t get it.

Way it was explained to me stopping power of 9mm recoil of 22. I don’t really get it either and ammo is to expensive for me to want to dive down that road right now. Now if for some reason it was cheaper to shoot I’d consider it but that’s worse than 45 or 10mm

When I got one it was less than 50 cents a round. In a PS90 it is like a modern 22 hornet in a short semiauto that holds 50 rounds. As a PD gun I think it would do the job, I know I do not want to get hit by one. I have used it on coyote raccoons and turkey, kills all those just fine and is a handy little bullpup.

In the 57 handgun it is not as impressive but that is what the Waco shooter used and unfortunately it seemed effective there.

I will not pay #3 a round for it, guess it is good I got a quite a bit put back for when I want to shoot it. With the not so good trigger and sights it came with the PS90 can shoot inch or so groups at 50 yards. In a handgun it is a light weight light recoiling round with high capacity.

Me neither. I've never been attracted to it. But sometimes you don't get the attraction unless you are in the other person's shoes. I am highly attracted to a Coonan 357 mag. So attracted, that I just got one! Some people look at that and say, "why would you spend so much on that when you could just get a 10mm with much higher magazine capacity." They just don't see it like I do.

I’m out. Not a fan of the FN plastic pistol that shoots them either. To each their own, I know some love them.

I thought maybe I was the only one who doesn’t get it. I just never understood what people see in them when 5.7 ammo is so high. But then I see people selling 22mag ammo for a dollar a round. I guess I’m still living in the past.

I got one of the Ruger 57's when they first came out. The ballistics are impressive, it's fun to shoot, and I use it for hog trap clearing. The honeymoon is over, thanks to the ammo pricing, so it doesn't get many field trips to just throw lead down range any more. It still makes my trap line runs with me because I like the one shot, one kill performance it delivers and it's light and handy to carry.. There are certainly other alternatives that make more sense, and I have a couple of them as well. It just sounded like a great idea at the time, and Ruger has sold a ton of them. As mentioned by other folks previously, definitely not for everyone, but I also have a few other firearms that are not "practical." Heck, my old 30-30 will do everything I need to do here in CenTex, but practicality rarely makes it into my gun buying decisions, and hasn't for years! Besides, what would I do with all the safe space that would be cleared up if I went "practical?"
