I'm looking for a lease for myself, my son-in-law, and possibly his brother. How much should I expect to pay for annual access per hunter? We are looking west of Fort Worth but east of Abilene, and north of Lampasas but south of Wichita Falls. Ideally, we would like to be able to hunt whitetail, hogs, and possibly small game with both rifles and archery. We previously had a dirt-cheap lease on timberland in east Texas near Lufkin, but my daughter and son-in-law have moved to the Fort Worth area. We moved to Granbury to be closer to the new granddaughter.

We aren't looking for B & C trophies, but would like to see good quality deer while having the opportunity to put management bucks or does into the freezer where possible. I make sausage, too, so hogs would be nice. I've found some commercial agencies that serve as a clearinghouse, but I'd like to have some expectation for lease cost. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

David

In that area and for what you're describing, I'd estimate between $1000-$2500 per gun depending on campground amenities, ranch size, etc.

I would put it at $1,500-$2,500.

I think your starting point for this area starts at $2500 for a basic lease. Electric, water, etc add more.

x 2.

Figure on xxx acres per hunter x $15+ per acre for a basic lease.

within that region, it might even be higher than $15/acre due to closeness to the DFW metroplex but I could be wrong.

Most likely will be higher that's why I put a plus (+) after the $15 +.

I actually agree, $15-20 per acre or about $2500 +/- per gun for the average lease basic lease in that area. You may find some bargains but those are getting to be fewer and farther between inside of 3 hours of the metromess..

Thanks for the replies. That tells me that it is within reach at least. We just can't pay $10K each for a lease, since that's only the beginning of the cost. smile

You're not wrong. That's IF you can find one.

We pay $8.00 an acre or $1750.00 per section for a camp with electric, but no water. Most leases as 10-$12.00 per acre were I am.

Bigjoe, maybe I have gone brain dead but I think your math is wrong.

Wrong word choice (section). We split the lease into 5 different areas and was using section and area as one in the same. We lease 1,300 acres for $8.00 per acre.
