I just bought a used Charles Daly Trap O/U. The gun shoots great as long as your using the lower barrel. (I only shoot 16 yd. singles).
But as soon as you shoot the top barrel the gun breaks open as soon as you pull the trigger and the gun goes off. I can pull the trigger without a shell in the gun and everything works A-ok.
Any ideas?????

Is this an older BC Miroku Charles Daly?

Weak or broken spring holding the locking lug in place, only moves during recoil maybe.......

Yes, it is a Miroku Daly. I know nothing about the history of this gun. When I called Charles Daly at the service number listed on their website, I was told it wasn't a Charles Daly...confused me to say the least, it says "Charles Daly" on the gun...what gives?

+1 on RWH24s assessment. That stinks of a weak or worn retention spring to me.

The top lever spring is weak. Take it to a gun smith and he should be able to fix you up pretty easy.

Any good Browning O/U gunsmith can fix your gun....

Miroku is the current manufacture of Browning O/U's.

That are not internally alike thou..There were transition years even in manufactoring the early Chas Daly's.

The link above is to a company that makes obsolete parts for you gun.

Good Luck
