I purchased several pounds of this powder from Chad previously. I worked up some .223 loads. Chad had provided a one page loading sheet with the powder which I have lost.

Has anybody worked up loads for the .308 or more specifically 7.62 X 51 for use in gas guns? I am generally loading a 150 FMJ, 155 TMK or 168 SMK. I know Chad had mentioned using BL-C2 as a starting point but looking for real world experiences.

Thanks in advance.

You'll just have to find what works in your rifle. I have loads that don't show any pressure signs in one rifle that will in another. Same goes for accuracy. You can use BLC(2) as a reference if you deduct 10% from the data.

In a different thread I mentioned that I had issues in an AR a full grain below where others were ending up. I understand working up, I am looking for people's experiences so I have a couple data points for comparison.

Ladder test it one round per charge, go find pressure as well as your nodes. 300 yards or farther works best, and a really big piece of white paper.

If you don't mind, could you send me a copy?
I was gonna start a very similar project. I just like all the data I can get my hands on.

PM or email me your phone number and I'll text it to you.

WC 846 S powder, For a 168 grain at 2.800" COAL and loaded in my once fired WCC brass, Fed 210, I got pressure at 45.5 grains and 2825 fps in a 24" barrel. So keep it under about 45 grains and you're good. For the 150/155 grain lighter bullets, you should be good about 1.5 to 2 grains more, so about 47 grains as max. But certainly work up to this. This would be 308 Win data. for 7.62x51 pressures, drop it 1.5 to 2 grains from 308 Win data.

the WC 846 S commercial powder is near identical to the retail equivalent of BLC-2. But it's not BLC-2. The canister grade burn rate tolerances are much broader than the retail versions are, so each canister lot has to be tested to dial it in with the bullet you are shooting. But BLC-2 is a great starting point for load data.

I too bought WC846 from Chad awhile back. My best load in my M1A was 43.7gr using LC-13 with Military primers and Winchester 147gr bullets. I was getting 2740fps while the temps were in the mid 90's.

I have 300 pieces of LC 12 that I prepped and primed with CCI #34. I have 300 150 gr Hornady SST to load. Its for an M1A too. I was planning to start a ladder around 43 grains so your data point is extremely pertinent.

I get that this is supposed to look like BL-2C but I am not so sure. It seems to be a bit more energetic. Hodgdon lists 45 grains as the starting point for their .308 Service Rifle loading for BL-C2. I get that maybe LC brass is thicker and you need to reduce the charge 1.0 grain but they only get 2720 with 46 grains in a Winchester case and a 24" barrel.

BTW, I thought WCC was military too and close to LC. All the WCC I have seem needed the primer crimps removed. My first thought was that with LC cases it should be close to Chads data but I am having second thoughts ... not about Chad mind you, just my assumption. Start low and work up. If I find a node around 43.5 I will probably stick with it.
