Curious why you didn't place the tank more under the catch tin?

Looks great. A friend has a couple in AZ on his property, and the one like yours is much easier to keep clean. The big circular one with the drain in the middle is a pain to keep clean. They have lots of pine needles that fall or blow onto it and plug the screen.

My guess, probably to utilize the surface area of the tank itself for catchment too. Looks like it was designed to be a stand alone catchment and the OP added the tin for more surface area.

We have six guzzlers out on our ranch in south Texas. Basically a 10' x 10' tin roof slanted to the back raised up 6 foot high on landscape timbers. A rain gutter is on the slanted lower side to catch water which flows into a 55 gallon plastic barrel under the roof. The barrel sits about 15 inches off the ground on cinder blocks. A 10 foot garden hose is attached to the barrel. The other end of the garden hose has a "float" mechanism attached to a black 10" tall previously used"molasses" bucket. We have had these for the past 15 years and they are placed just inside our "hog" panel pens which also has out deer pellet feeders as well as our corn feeders. The deer have everything there for them. Of course, if it doesn't rain, then you have to bring water. It takes less than an inch of rain to fill up a 55 gallon barrel.

The tank in itself is 8' in a diameter and catches water on the lid and is designed to be a stand alone system. We only get around 20" of rain a year so I wanted to catch rain with the tin and the tank lid as well. The tank is butted up against the concrete for the posts holding up the tin. Can't get it any closer. The gutter for the tin will protrude about 12" past the edge of the tin to dump water on the lid of the tank. The intent was to increase the surface area that captures rain.

It will amaze you how quickly it will fill up with the metal roof gutter system......we have one for our camp and it stays full 350 gallon.....

If they were solar panels instead of tin, you would never have to change batteries in your feeder.

For the price difference between solar panels that large and tin....I'll take the tin and bring along a few batteries.
