Hello All, how much is everyone pushing the 115Dtacs with using H4350 and or RE16?
Im using hornady brass out of a savage with a 26" criterion barrel. I haven't worked up any with 4350 yet, but I did check some out with re16 and went as high as 41.5 with no pressure signs and ran right at 3k fps. Groups were meh at 3/4". I was 0.40" off the lands. I figure I will load some more at around 2960-70 and play with seating depth anywhere from 0.20-0.60" to see if the grouping gets better. One thing that surprised me was that with the re16 my ES and SD were nothing to write home about. Mostly low teens for SD and around 30 ES. I had some 108eld loaded up for my wife's rifle and tried them for giggles and they came out at 1/2", but the same ES and SD as the re16. I was thinking if I do try the 4350 with the 115 dtac id bet somewhere in the low 41.xx grain area would be where i would end up? If anyone wants to post their favorite load with the 115 that would be kinda nice to see just for reference.

I have been as high as 41.7 but had good accuracy at a lower node around 40.5gr of H4350 in one rifle and 40.0ish in another. You can run the higher node but I fear the brass life a throat erosion is not a trade I was willing to make. I have some RL16 but have been saving it for the next batch of bullets.
I am using the coated DTACs, I would guess it might lower pressure sightly over the naked ones. Great bullet for a low price, I just cracked open a box of the nose ring version but haven't shot enough at distance to form an opinion.

My experience with dtac's is they really are happy in the 2900-3050fps range.

Hey Dee, that was my understanding as well. Heck, maybe the 3/4” groups are mostly the drivers fault. It’s not like I can claim to consistently shoot better than that. I’m just hoping to find something a tad tighter than that with Re16 so that I can leave the 4350 to the wife and her 108s. Hopefully my 2960 fps tests with different lengths will show something better than I already saw.

Mine is typically around 1/2 minute consistency. I'm fairly certain my jump is pretty substantial although I've not checked it in a few barrels. I just load them to 2.80 off the tip and go from there. Luckily the last 3 barrels have all been happy there.

That’s the length I used on my initial loads that gave 3/4”. Like I mentioned, probably the Indian rather than the arrow. At 2.800 my jump is about 0.037”.

Starline brass LRP
Mine shoot well with a significant jump (.050"), not saying you have to jump them but easier to stay in tune than running up close to jam and chasing the lands.

jtod, I’m loading 41.3 gr. of H4350 and getting 2920 (when new, may have sped up a bit) out of a 24” Bartlein bbl. Seating .010 off the lands. My last groups, (3 shot, indoors), were .30 cold bore start followed up with a .225 for the next 3. I cannot say that’s normal, I still suck at times, LOL.

Mine shot good at .010 jump as well, but I like to load in bulk when possible. I can't maintain the smaller jump for long as my throat erosion catches up quick and I'm at .015 or more pretty quick. The difference from .045 to .050 on groups was less than say .010 to .015, not sure why but it seems less sensitive at the longer jumps.

The posts mentioning that longer jumps are more stable than the shorter jumps is in agreement with an article I read. In the article they tested jumps in 6CM across 6 different rifles and found that 0.040-0.055 and anything 0.070+ were stable. I’ve got some more test rounds loaded with 2960fps RE16 at 20,30 and 60 thou jumps to see if anything tightens up. I know those are big spreads, just looking to see if anything is tighter than the rest so I can go back and fine tune from there. There are so many posts that mention what P_102 had said about 41.3 H4350 that I loaded some of those up too. (that just so happens to be my exact load for 108eld that I get 1/2” from) I was hoping this barrel would like RE16, but so far it does like 4350 better. Fingers crossed that one of my RE16 loads works.

Berger learned that a jump can be a good thing, bet DTAC bullets can be the same way. https://bergerbullets.com/vld-making-shoot/In my 6.5-284 .08 off the lands, working through over 5 grain of powder no load shot over MOA and the best 2 about .3 MOA with me shooting and almost no vertical dispersion I know Bergers and DTACs are not the same but do not be afraid to work with longer jumps.

Dtac's are similar to sierra (no surprise since that's who makes them) in ogive profile so they are very jump friendly.

Ended up settling on 0.030” off. Was able to shoot a 1/2” 5 shot group. 0.60 off came in at .6”. There’s also some interesting results @ 0.020 off. 5 shot group, almost no vertical poi difference, but it was 2” left to right. I think that can be blamed on me? Every shot made the group wider, none were clustered. The shots felt good, but I think horizontal stringing is always the shooters fault. I’d love to blame wind, but I’d only be pulling my own leg. I’m going to re shoot that length again. Seems the 115 dtac turned out much like everyone advised and a load anywhere between 2900-3k is where you will find a winner. Mine are trotting along at 2960.
