We bought our first home for 175k then sold it four years later for 225k. The price of the house went up soon after they built an HEB less then a mile away.......but we rolled it straight into the next house so.....

Tax assessors are probably all giddy by this market as well Those are just people that couldn’t pass the appraisers test. They tried to up my tax appraisal by $45,000 for the addition of my shop, yet the lending appraiser only gave me a $15,000 valuation for it.

Not my investment but my parents. In 1963 they bought this place. Paid $86 per acre. Today there is a place that joins this that is on the market for $10,000 per acre.

Tax Assessors are typically elected officials that have no input into the operations of the appraisal district. I think you are referring to appraisers that work for an appraisal district. The head of the appraisal district is usually titled "Chief Appraiser".

We sold our house in Tiki Island back in July, full price cash offer, no contingencies. The buyers decided after moving in that it was too small, they relisted it and it sold again 3 weeks later for $25K more than they paid. The market is crazy right now. We are buying a waterfront home in North Carolina on 3 acres for far less than what we sold for. Taxes and insurance are way less even with a state income tax, want to cut expenses before retirement. Our taxes and insurance in Tiki were 20k a year This. I read an article that Texas ranks #9 in the US for the number of retirees that leave the state. Say what you want about Alabama, but when I retire, I will pay zero state income tax and my property taxes will be frozen at around $700 a year.

Property taxes suck -- I just paid that bill earlier this week begrudgingly.
We upgraded homes last year and sold our place that we bought in 2011. In the 9 years we had it, we took a $115k "profit" from when we bought it. Part of the game is timing the market right and we got lucky. Unfortunately as others have mentioned, we paid more than we should have for the new home. Luckily it's our forever home and we bought it before this huge rush.

Bought a couple of MJ rookies a few years ago graded PSA 8. Paid $800 each. Going on eBay right now for $14,000+
If I sell, I must say this was my best investment ever.

He could damage the card in any little way, or hell MJ might do something drastic like Aaron Hernandez, and the cards could go down drastically. Also notice most things on ebay don't sell. They put ridiculous prices up all the time. What does it book for? I deal with this in art. They often double or triple the price. I've talked a guy from $5000 to a price of $2500.

We enjoyed Tiki, I was working out of Ellington Field, so the commute was only 25 minutes. Good fishing and the atmosphere was much better than the burbs

Real estate has been solid in north Texas.
I’m hoping to cash out in a couple years. Move to a non metroplex county.

Me too I once went in with a friend and bought a few acres of undivided land. The tax man started appraising it as if it were divided land. I had to fight the appraised value every year. The man advised me to split it up. Duh. I sold it.

If you can get that. Ebay is a pretty interesting place. I use a data base for art, but it is connected to a a bunch of auction houses. I did a quick check this is the most recent psa 8 card I found.
