It has come to my attention that Camp Bullis, on the outskirts of North San Antonio allows hunting for active duty, retired, and depends. Anyone have experience with Hunting at Camp Bullis? I was there last week to check out the ranges and saw signs for hunting but the rod and gun club was closed. I did snap some shots of the ranges available on Sat and Sun every weekend. They have a decent range that goes out to 300M. Any insider info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have limited knowledge but from I understand they have a lottery, there’s restrictions on what you can use and have different areas for archery and rifle hunting. Haven’t hunted but looked into it a couple times. Here’s a we link I found quickly doing a search.

I hunted there for a few years in the early 90's and was even a "guide" but I'm sure all the rules and procedures have changed. I was recently thinking about looking in to it again since my hunting opportunities are limited.

Yeah I saw quite a few deer while I was there. Mostly Doe.

I've hunted there for 20 years but most of those years (1989-2005) was when it was actually fun with less rules when the Army MWR ran it, and the guys in charge knew what they were doing.
Air Force took it over along with the now "Joint Base" designation, and it's a pain at times.
Lottery draw, not expensive, limited numbers of hunters and days in the field, shotgun only no rifles, archery, but worth it if you don't mind jumping through hoops, but I guess it's better than nothing.
There are plenty of hog opportunities, and deer are where you find them through learning the area, turkey, and some Axis, but they stay close to the headquarters where you can't hunt.
Go to the link posted earlier above!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Before they closed the gate I used to go through there on the way to IH 10. I have seen herds of Axis that had at least 50 to 75 animals. They used to block the road
to let the herds across. But that was quite a few years ago.

That was before urban sprawl surrounded the post, and before the high fence went up.
Most of the deer, Axis included what few there are, hang around the range area where they know they are safe.

I bow hunted there for two years. You're designated your own area by lottery for the season. I saw very few deer in the areas I hunted. With that said there are some nice bucks there. If it was my only option for hunting I would still be there.

My neighborhood is about 1.5miles south from the fence of unit 10. I have hiked in the woods on the trail back there and have set up a trail cam on some game trails. No exotics in this area but, tons of hogs, huge bucks, and lots and lots of turkey.
