I have not deer hunted much in this area. I was wondering what type of bucks are around. I know this is the hill country, but I have not spent much time hunting it.

For the past 4 years I have hunted in Dickens county on 880 acres of family land. I have shot some great deer and love the place. My uncle called last night and said that in the future he might be selling the 880 for 5000 in Southern Burnet county. Either way I get to bow hunt, just going to miss the Dickens county.

Deer wont be as big IMHO. There are some areas in burnet county with very thick populations of deer though. I bet you will still see some great deer and will just need to start a good management program to see results. (typical hill country hunting.) Good Luck! I'd go for it without hesitation.

If you go there anytime this year don't get discouraged. We are 30 inches below for the past 22 months in rainfall. Many oaks are stressed and some areas are getting infected by oak wilt. We are desperate for rain. I have heard about some 140+ killed (free range) the past couple years.

Thanks for the replies guys. I new it was try down there, but 30 inches is real bad.

I am not going to deer hunt down there this year, may make for turkey season. Not real sure when or even if my Uncle is going to get rid of the land in Dickens.

Thanks again, I am headed that way right now to plow up the food plots.
