Okay had issues with the master bedroom toilet it was over flowing and we could hear gurgling in the sink when we tried to flush it, we tried the plunger not happening.
Wife calls the same Plumbing co we used last time to fix it and see if there are any leaks.

So for 2 hours and $575.00 this is what they (two guys) did. Below is their line item from my bill.

*Run large sewer machine to clear Sewer line.
(He ran what looked like a snake up the sewer clean out that is outside our bathroom window and very close to the sink and toilet in question
He said we had a soft clog which usually consist of hair and toilet paper)

*Tested Toilet and sink master bathroom to confirm proper operation

*Ran sewer cameras to inspect sewer line with no damage found.

*Performed water pressure test and it failed the test, PSI started at 72 PSI and dropped to 0 in two minutes.

He said we have a leak and it will be another $150 an hour to search for it with no clue how many hours that might take.
Does this sounds normal and reasonable or should we be looking for another plumbing co, if so referrals are much appreciated.

A leak in a supply line wouldn't cause sewer line problems. Unless I'm misreading that.

Sounds like a 100/man hr plus 75 for the snake and 100 for the camera. Does seem a little rich but I'm not paying their bills.

I'd be curious how they performed the leak down test as I think there could be a lot that goes wrong there.

Be careful what you put in the toilet. Do not flush your feminine hygiene pads.

Yeah, you need someone that's not trying to rip you off.

Are you seeing water anywhere?

Sounds like you have two separate problems. A water leak under the slab can be costly down the line if not fixed.

Yeah, I have to keep coming back to this. WHY were they doing a leak test on a clogged toilet call?

Depending on who your insurance company is, they may cover some (most of) the cost...Germania still covers them, thankfully. You have to pay for the actual repair of the line, but they paid for everything else on ours.

They all love running the camera now. Adds over 100$ to the cost. Like said above, they got you for 2 guys at 85-100$ per hour too.

I remember when they first got the cameras, it was min $400 for 30 minutes. It sounds to me like you asked for an oil change and they did all your fluids and rotated your tires. Did you ask for those other items? If you have a newer house, there would be no need for the camera run unless they were afraid they had caused damage, then that's on THEM, not you. Also don't get the leak test unless someone in your house mentioned something.

IMO they ripped you off by doing unrequested services. Their total price isn't too far out of line, though.

Here is a picture of the invoice. He dated it 2020 though.

^^ this

If your master bedroom toilet is working it seems like they fixed one issue...now you need to figure this leak thing out. Good luck, that stuff sucks!

How can you build all that pressure without plugging both ends and where is the leaking water going?

They’re suggesting a slab leak? Are there any signs of water? If that’s broken after the toilet on an outgoing pipe, that shouldn’t cause any gurgling inside.

A wax ring that isn’t sealing can cause issues. It could be that simple.

Yep, and so can a water supply valve to a toilet not being fully opened....

A clogged vent stack can also cause the gurgling. One would also think that a clogged vent could contribute to clogged lines. I'm certainly not an expert though.

But a water pressure test on a supply line is a totally different thing than a hydrostatic test on a sewer line. A water leak isn't going to cause problems with your sewer. IMO.

Okay, but why did they do the pressure test? Did you mention there was a water pressure issue?

Heck, I had one try to charge us $400 for the camera last summer. That did not end well for them.

The wife handles all of the bills and noticed our water bill seemed consistently high so she assumed we had/have a leak and wanted them to check it out.

BTW $275.00 of that bill was for unclogging the turdlet,I thought that part would be somewhere around $150.00 the other $300 was for the test and camera.

They didn’t pressure test the supply. Did they? I understand this to be a pressure test on the waste pipe.

Turn off all water in the house go read your meter and watch it for a period of 1 to.3 hours and see if the meter moves. Remember no flushing toilet or anything. Your sewer can be checked by plugging the outside clean out with a inflatable plug and filling line with water not to overflow anything in the house and wait and see if it leaks down

Sorry to hear that, Stub. Hope you get it figured out soon. Seems to be about the most expensive trade out there, and when they break out the camera you better hold on to your wallet.

I bought a house to rehab a few years back and didn’t get a pressure check done beforehand. Learned that lesson the hard way and will never skip that step again. It had been dumping raw sewage under the house for who knows how long. We had to bust through the living room floor/foundation to get to the broken pipe. What a mess.

Having had work like that done. It's about right.

It's expensive work. Nobody want to be a plumber. But they sure are high.
