If you have a big bore air gun what do you think about it? I am kinda looking at the 45cal airforce Texan, but idk crap about airguns. How far can you reasonably kill a deer with them? Is 100yards over optimistic? What about bullets, my thinking says soft lead hollow point, but idk. What else do i not know, that i don't know?

Thanks

The largest hurdle is the air compressors a good one will cost as much or more than the rifle.

100 yards is doable pretty easy with practice. All ammo is gonna be soft lead no matter if it’s in the shape of a slug, a round ball, or a hybrid slug/pellet. The barrels are not made for copper jackets. You will get about 3 full power shots from a Texan on a fill. You will need a lot of air so either a compressor $500-$1000 or a bottle $200+ depending, which can be filled at a scuba shop or paintball shop. I shoot a Umarex Air Saber which is an arrow gun. I don’t have the range a big bore has but I use less air and it’s just as deadly shooting an arrow 450 FPS. The big bores are cool but honestly if I’m looking to shoot something at a distance I’ll just shoot a rifle. I use my air gun to help bridge the gap between my bow and rifle. It’s quiet, I still need to get close, and I get to shoot more shots without refilling.

Umarex has one now that sells for around 400.00.
It works great.

Always enjoyed reading your write ups on your adventures. Should drop by more often. How’s the land cruiser?

Still cruising. Got a Tacoma too now so it’s been doing most of the traveling. That old Cruiser just keeps on going. 300,000 original miles now.
