I don't have a Contender or a BFR in .30-30 (yes, they made one) so I have to ask what are your goals?

That makes all the difference in a load.

I can tell you the two or three I have for my Waffle Top but that's likely a different neighborhood.

Pass the gravy.

The most likely target will be Texas critters (hogs)
This TC is the carbine length (23")
but I kill plenty of paper too !

My favorite deer load was the 125 Nosler Ballistic Tip and a max load of Varget for 2500 fps.

It was very accurate in the 30-30 Contender carbine. Just about the lightest deer rifle ever too.

I have had one for many years, worked my way back around to the 150 gr. Speer flat nose. Surprisingly accurate and does all I need done. Shot a lot of 110 gr. Hornady Spire points, 130 gr. Speer HP and FN's, and an incredible number of Speer plinkers.

I have one that looks a lot like that with a 7-30 Waters barrel

I had a Contender 30/30 pistol with a 10" bull barrel. I shot a couple of deer & a turkey with the 125 Nosler BT. They seemed to do okay on deer.

Handgun hunting didn't really excite me so I sold the pistol barrel off.

I have one and only one experience with the 125 NBT. I made some reduced loads for a 30-06 for my son/nephews to shoot. I loaded a 125 NBT over 30-40 grains of H 4895 and it chronographed at just over 2500 fps. I shot 1 animal with it a javelina at 85 yards. The bullet didnt exit on a broad side shot. It was not even a big javelina, but it did die on the spot.

30-40 grains. Did you just throw some in there and call it good?

No, its just something I loaded up a few years ago and dont intend to load any more of. If memory serves me it was 36 grains but im not sure.
