I was fortunate to get to hunt an MLD ranch in Gaines County for Mule Deer last weekend. Sunday morning started early, getting out to the field around around 5:30 am and waiting for the sun to rise around 7:00. My guide (friend of the ranch owner) later said while waiting for the sun to come up, I guess I could have let you sleep in an extra hour but both being excited for the hunt we didn't mind waiting for first shooting light. Once it was light enough to see we climbed on top of a tank battery to start glassing. Two good bucks had been seen the last couple of weeks in this particular pasture (6 sections) we were in and with the rut nearing my guide felt very good that we could get on one of them. After about 15 minutes of glassing we located a group that had 8-10 does in it and 4 bucks with one of them being a good 4x4. So we climbed down got in the truck to get closer so we could put a stalk on them from behind. While walking through the brush one of the does got spooked and took off running taking the rest of the group with her. We hustled back to the truck thinking we knew where they were headed and we could catch them crossing a ranch road. They never showed at this intersection. After waiting and glassing this area we went back to the tank batteries to glass again without any luck. So we decided to back track our route and in doing so we spotted the group. We got out of the truck and found a good spot to wait on the group to make their way to us. Eventually they did and the big buck was at 171 yards and stepped out in a opening where I took the shot. What a great morning hunt!!

Great looking big buck. Any measurements, width, score, weight? Looks big bodied besides big horned.
