Idk if anyone has seen these but over the last 4-5 days both have released PSA’s

Basically both saying they are trying hard as they can and there’s not a conspiracy with the ammo shortage

I still find it hard to believe that those guys can’t get ammo to the biggest stores in 6-8 months

Midway hasn’t had squat in months

So where’s it going?

Hoarders aren’t getting it all, I’ve checked Midway and Brownells too many times

I still think there is something going on with this.

I can tell you that academy gets two shipments a week that seldom sees the shelf. Most of it is back ordered to be picked up in store. The rest hits the shelf and is gone in 30 minutes from the line of people at the door when they open.

If you want ammo order it to your local store, pay regular price, wait a couple of weeks. You’ll have all you want.

Are you saying you have to order it in person at Academy?

Their website always says shipping not available on ammo

I can 100% assure you that all the ammo mfg are loading/shipping ammo as fast as they can. It's the same issue we're having at WC with ammo or any AR15 product, the reason a lot of product shows up out of stock is because most of what we are producing goes to fill existing orders and there isn't anything left to put in-stock in the warehouse.

Distributors are limiting how much each dealer can buy because there isn't enough ammo to go around.

I think it’s called conditioning.

Remember when gas was 1.09 a gallon and then went to 2.29 a gallon and everybody was outraged? Then it went to 4.00 a gallon and you couldn’t hardly find anywhere. We were panic buying. Then it went back down to 2.09 and everything is great again.

Ammo will no longer be 9 bucks a box for 9mm any longer. They’re conditioning to love 20 dollar a box 9mm and we’re falling for it.

The dealers and internet sellers are the primary ones jacking the prices up. The ammo mfg like Federal and Hornady have only raised their prices by 8-10% and this is primarily due to them having to pay increased raw material costs, expedited material shipping and lots of overtime salaries. The distributors have only been passing along this modest price increase.

There are obviously exceptions to this like everything else, I know we have had to pay a hefty "premium" to get some of the ammo we've been able to purchase since this panic began. I'm sure a lot of dealers have also paid premiums just to get ammo.

One other thing to keep in mind is pre-pandemic/riots/Antifa/BLM/election there was a HUGE glut of ammo that was not selling and prices were at rock bottom, then boom, that transitioned to all time record demand in a matter of weeks!!! The age old supply and demand equation in play......

I do tend to agree though that the future price of a 50rd box of 9mm FMJ will likely be in the $15.-$20. range

I remember 9mm being cheap in the Bush years, and then skyrocketing under Obama. It came back down quite a bit. In a year or two, it will be near 20 cents again.

Go to Midwayusa.com. Set up an account. Find the ammo that you want. Click the notify button. They will email you once in stock. When you get that email, you gotta be fast though. It won't be in stock but for a few minutes.

They have been getting things in stock. I've been getting the notification emails. Occasionally, I will be quick enough to get some of it.

My Academy told me there's a line that starts @ 6;30am every Monday, Wednesday & Friday that is 150' long of people buying ammo. It rolls out on carts & is gone w/in 10 minutes of them opening on every one of those days. This isn't people hoarding, this is people flipping it for 3-4 times what they paid.
Once idiots quit paying 3-4 times the value then ammo will be normal priced again. Tell all the idiots you know, that are paying 3-4 times the actual value, to quit!!!

People will continue to pay up just because they don't want to stand in line, and have it when they want it not wait!

Looks like everybody that didn’t have a gun ran out and bought one. And that’s a lot of people. And then they needed a lot of ammo. But, it seems that demand should have been satisfied in a reasonably short time, because I don’t think those people are out practicing much. As for where the ammo is going now, I can believe people are buying to flip it, but are they really reselling it or just holding on to it? And is the ammo shortage causing the short supply of reloading components? Who is buying that stuff? It isn’t the new gun owners, 65% of whom probably haven’t figured out how to use the gun yet. I guess it’s the ammo makers using up what used to go into the reloading pipeline. I know that I haven’t bought a bunch more reloading stuff, though I am on back order for a couple hundred Sierra bullets.

Back a couple of shortages ago, I decided to build a little stock in reloading components so I wouldn’t get jammed up the next time. There have been several ‘next’ times since then. I plan to replace my stocks back to regular levels when this shortage is over - assuming it will eventually be over.

This. I was able to get 3 boxes of Hornaday reduced recoil in 308 and 3 boxes of Remington Coreloc's in 243 about three weeks ago. I asked to be notified when it was in stock and about 1-2 weeks later got my email. The only downside to Midway is the $15 shipping.

Thanks,
Rich

Gotta watch for those free shipping days at Midway.

Prices will go back down as they always do. This one may be longer in duration but after every crunch the market gets flooded by extra production and the import ammo catches up as well. I don't think market will support $20 9mm as the stuff costs about one quarter of that to produce so some mfg will be willing to do it for half that and still be profitable. Im betting steel case Russian stuff only costs a couple of bucks a box to make or less...

Even back when Obama created a panic? That one lasted a long time. We aren't even to the halfway point of this current shortage. Either your "plenty" ain't much, you shoot a lot, or both.
