I have a nice Remington 700 Varmint Special in 223. It’s in a pretty good shape with a nice crisp 2.5 lbs trigger and shoots a consistent half MOA with hand loads at 100Y.
I was wondering what’s the current value of this rifle. I did search on GB for completed sells and it was not very conclusive.
I love this rifle and I’m not planning to sell it. It’s for my personal records.

I’ve seen these go for around $700-750 in similar condition.

Are some calibers more desirable than others? I saw completed sales on GB for the 6mm version that have reached pretty high dollars.

I have the same rifle with a straight Leupold 12X, bought it new in the early 90's it's a safe queen.
Many of California ground squirrel have been on the wrong end of it.

I would think one in that good of shape should be worth at least $1k.

Might be worth more right now

I’d say it would sell for $650 pretty easy.

6mm in that gun seems to be more rare, like the 220 swift, I could see those selling for more..
Gunbroker can be a good feel but will likely disappoint I once had a anschutz chipmunk, or something it was fairly rare because it was kid sized and they didn’t make many and even fewer were imported. I saw one sell for like 1,000 once and mine was like new in box I put mine on as no reserve and it sold for 675. It just depends on who’s looking at the moment it is listed.

I'm sure it will sell for $650 smile
That is if I was planning to sell (which I'm not).

This is a very high quality rifle with great fit and finish and a deep bluing that you rarely see these days. It's too bad that Remington doesn't make these anymore (probably too expensive to produce).

A varmint rifle in a barrel burner caliber like the 220 swift..... I would think twice before buying one, as it will probably need to be rebarreled.

It appears that the production of Remington 700 has been stopped. I do have a pretty new 700 VLS in 223 that I was planning to sell because it’s not free floated and only shoots 3/4 MOA (I need 1/2 MOA or better). But even that VLS is now going to become collectable. I’ll just keep it and try to develop a good load for it. With its 12 twist I can use my H335 powder to load some light projectile for it and save my Varget for heavier bullets that I’ll shoot in other rifles.

I bought the VLS new for $850. Right now, even used, they are selling for $900+; which is around the same price as the Varmint Special (which, in my opinion, is a better rifle)

It is worth whatever someone is willing to give for it.

I have a .22-250 and I don't think I'd even consider an offer under a $1000.
