I've only seen a few while quail hunting. Its a shame that there are not enough quail to hunt in east Texas.

Jenny was on the move, got a whiff of woodcock, and almost wrapped herself around a tree pointing him today. P.S. We got the bird .

Today was an especially good day. Got a quick limit and had lots more points. Jenny kept looking at me like, “Why aren’t you shooting?”
Birds have been scarce before today. I’m guessing this coming cold front is bringing them in.

I got out and explored some new cover that I thought looked promising after work. My photography skills are woeful but I was enjoying just me and the dog. I was relaxed today and enjoying watching Cricket work. I took the time to take a few dog pictures.
First bird of the day

This one screwed me in the ground. It flushed at about 3’. I’m a lefty and it rocketed past my left shoulder at about 5’. Good stuff!

This one was awesome. Cricket is looking at this bird and his eyes were about to bug out of his head. I hope the pic is good enough to see his eyes. It was my limit bird and I really wanted to kill this one for him.

Man, I wish I could find them in relatively open areas like that. My birds are predominantly in super thick stuff.

My favorite game birds on the table. They are kinda like Dr. Pepper though, you either love it or hate it. Breast is dark meat. Legs and thighs are white meat. I pluck, salt and pepper and roast them skin on.

I know it Nogalus. Cricket is staunch enough I trained him to flush on command when I am stymied by the cover. It was not used here.

Got the dog and the 410 out for the last day. Just me and the dog today. Shot two for the dog. The 410 is fun!

I decided to be much more laid back and go easy on the birds this year compared to past years. Shoot one or two and that’s all.
