Prayers to his family, sounds like he may have tried to swim to his boat.

Prayers up for the family.

If you hunt big water long enough, you're gonna have close calls. I wish this would have turned out different. I've had my boat drift off, too. Was hunting alone and thought I would be smart and do the old man trick where you leave a lot of slack in the winch line, back it off till if floats, then pull the boat up to the ramp. Save a step. Well, was a good idea until the hook came off the boat and it never stopped. Luckily it's a crowded area and somebody came along pretty quick and took me out to retrieve it. I imagine he underestimated how fast the boat was drifting and thought he could catch up to it. A 10 MPH wind will get a jon boat moving pretty good.

He and his wife are family friends. His wife worked with me at a local school district. Fantastic people, dedicated hunter and firearms enthusiast. Robert was in top physical shape. Crazy times. Pray for Kim and family please.

Prayers for family. Shocking someone who is a police officer would make such a tragic, life ending mistake. If hunting alone, or even putting out dekes alone, Always wear a life jacket- your life is worth a 20 dollar academy vest to someone, even if itโ€™s not worth that to you

very sad. I'm wondering if the cold water shocked his heart or something? Did he dive right in or wade out some to get his body somewhat ready for the cold? Did he make it to the boat but couldn't get in it?

Prayers for his family

Hypothermia most likely. Either he made it to the boat and could not get it, or never made it there boat moving too fast, either way sad deal, RIP Sgt. Robert Ramsey.
