I have watched this buck all year and even saw him fight with another buck. When I saw him yesterday he now has a broken ear. My question is will this heal or be like this next season?

If it is broken it will be like that the rest of his life. This buck had normal looking ears till 2 yrs before this. He loved to fight and ended up with a ripped and broken ear.

Broken ear does make them more recognizable in years to come.

Thanks. Always trying to learn. His body is really atypical to me. He apparently had no shortage of testosterone as he aged. I would think most any ranch you would be on would of killed that deer long ago......?

I've killed numerous bucks with split, torn and bloody ears, but once they are damaged to the point that the cartilage is broken, that is permanent and whatever degree of disfigurement will remain.

He will be fine. I shot buck on Saturday we called tripod. Early in season he was at a different feeder. He had a compound fracture at knee in April. We saw the bone sticking out. Opening morning I watched him for almost a hour. He did not move fast but traversed a rocky hill. Really surprised the coyotes did not get him. Deer are amazingly tough. He is the one in pic with right front leg up. I kind of hated to shoot him because he was a survivor but also a noncontributor.
