Good luck to all the Texas woodcock hunters heading out on opening day or this weekend. All 8 of us.

Always do. Last weekend, I didn't really see anyone where I want to go except for a guy I already know. Should be good. If anyone is deer hunting in woodcock covers, they probably need to choose a new spot... unless they're expecting to see deer 6' away.

Hey, hey, HAY! I'd be there, if someone would invite me. Now, do I need a 28, or will a 20 be accepted? Does it have to be a side-by? I'm sure a semi-auto is frowned upon.

Needs to be light and quick and it will most likely get some character marks in the thickets. A purist will tell you anything other than a double gun is not sporting but regardless of what you shoot, if you can go a paltry 3 for 6 in the close quarters where I hunt, you are respectable in my book.

Shoot whatever you like. If you want to be an uncouth barbarian, semi is fine! I shoot a cheapish sxs, because I'm a poor peasant and I don't like leaving shotgun hulls in the woods. You're welcome to come out. The woods are public! I only started a couple years agon so I'm not much of a teacher and have a dog about aa dumb as me. But come on out if you like.

We hit it this morning, going again tomorrow. First time in east Texas to hunt these.
Big fun, bled some. The 15month old Boykin started getting things figured out today. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. A light rain should push the earthworms toward the surface and improve our chances and I think I’ll hunt a little older more open area.
Pretty much sacrificing a solid blaze orange shirt to the cause this season.
0 flushes but tons of smiles per mile.
Thought for the day: Ducks were almost hunted to extinction long before camo was invented.

1-0. Flushed 1 with the springer, I missed. Moved another tromping through brambles. Didn't even see that 1. Dog came back in one piece, no injuries, and only a couple nonvenomous snake encounters so that's a good day. Found 2 squirrels that someone shot, started skinning, and threw away. I hate waste.

My son and I got out with the pudelpointer after the storm. Headed home for blood transfusions. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/12/full-62286-270618-8e91136f_6570_472a_946e_de56d6d0ff39.png)
