Hi yall, so we got some land to hunt in east Texas and the owner said he had a bad hog problem and if we could
Help get rid of em. So we say yea and did tons of research. We put up cameras and knew where they were coming in and identified 3 Sounders. So we build a guillotine door, build a coral trap, baited it put a feeder in it.
and set the cell cam. By the second night we had hogs coming in. So we waited a week and decided to drive the 2.5 hours out and set the trap with trip wire. We have had as many as 14 hogs in this trap. So we set it and we go to our blind on another part of the property becuase we have a feeder set up there by a pond and we have green motion sensor hog lights on the feeder so we were gonna shoot a few there while we waited.

So 2 hours in my cell phone starts goin off the hogs are all over it we see em on video goin in . All of a sudden these 2 hogs start fighting one inside and one out side . There is another hog in the trap for a total of 2 . Well the second one runs under the trip wire and sets the trap . We heard this loud squealing from our deer blind about 200 years away. The video comes in and we see we got 2. The rest sounded like a freight train as they come running past our blind crashing thru the woods. So we got 2 and right away I see the problem the trip wire is not as effective as a remote door. So we kill the hogs , rebait and have the door open. It's been a week and a half and we have had a few hogs on camera come to the door but the wont go in. I am in the process of building a RF remote door trigger with a Lanier acuator, receiver long range amd remote hooked to a 12v battery. So when we see in the trap we can just hit a button and drop the door. So here is my question, I know these hogs are smart and they are trap shy but how long till they forget amd go back in? Should I bait with turnips to get back in?

Thanks for the help I'm gonna post some pics and videos hope they work. [Linked Image]

Where in east texas are you. I can show you a much better gate thats so simple and it works, corn is all you need to bait with.

They will return and go back into the trap. Just give them time and time is a big variable. A few years ago a neighbor & I caught 24 in a trap within a month. All it takes is for that first pig to go in. May not get many to follow him the first time but that will change the 2nd time they visit the trap.

I use a similar setup, and the hogs can be unpredictable as heck ! The most I have ever caught at one time is 22, but lots of times there is just a couple of them. Deer can present a problem for you as well, as they set off the door and jump out. It's often a crap shoot !

This is probably offtopic but those East Texas pigs are prettier than North Texas pigs....

Just some advice. Make the trap bigger, replace that wooden door, and keep pumping plain corn in the trap.

I know nothing about hog trapping, but I had the same thought on the pen size, seems small.

My trap is similar Your trap will work. The automatic gate trigger will help a lot. They are not real expensive to build.I would make the gate wider hogs seem less cautious with a wider gate. [Linked Image]
