My son had diligently saved up his money for a long time for a quality pellet gun. $400 is the budget and he wants a scope. I grew up with the ol 10 pump Daisy BB gun so I’m not very knowledgeable. In reading a lot it seems RWS is about the best and the model 34 .22 caliber is in price range. Anything better?

I have a Gamo he can have for free if he wants to use his $ for a real gun. Its a Gamo Big Cat with included Gamo scope. I just dont shoot it and my kids are too small. I’ll start them with a Red Ryder then straight to 22lr.

How old is your son? If he’s 12 or younger he might not have the strength to compress the spring of a full power gun like the rws 34. You might want to consider a Weihrauch HW30S. It’s accurate, has a nice trigger and is well constructed.

The Weiharauch HW30S is essentially the same as a Beeman R7. A different stock and sights, but otherwise identical. I own one and love it. I think them the kings of the back yard plinkers in that they're very quiet, very accurate, easy to load and have a neighbor friendly low (600 fps) velocity. The RWS 34 is high velocity and quite loud. You can't go wrong with a Beeman, Weiharauch, or RWS. Be aware that springer air guns are very hard on scopes, so use air gun scopes only. Also, the high velocity models are generally quite loud, so factor that into your decision.

SIG ASP20 hands down! Made in USA, nice wood and one hole accurate. I liked mine so much I bought another.

Gibsons in Weatherford had them in stock about a month ago.

He’s 7. I’m not sure I want him to be able to [censored] it by himself just yet.
