I couldn't hunt for 2+ weeks because I've been recovering from COVID-19, so I'm calling this my "COVID Buck". After getting cleared, I wasn't able to get out to our lease in Round Mountain, TX until Sunday afternoon. I played the wind right and the deer were focused on the corn (the ranch is dry as tinder and we are carrying a lot of deer, so I think food sources are drying up). Saw some pseudo rut behavior (maybe because of the excess of does?), which surprised me, and a couple of bucks did some half-hearted sparring. After about an hour, this guy showed up and aggressively tried to push the other two bucks there (a young 10-pt and a younger tall 8-pt that's going to be a stud next year) off the corn. One shot from the trusty .270 and he dropped right there, I was grinning ear to ear! Until, I realized, I'm at the ranch by myself and I'm going to have to lift this toad unto a cargo carrier on the back of my lifted Land Cruiser! It took some creativity with a ratchet strap but I got it done! Super excited to take this buck, I got a ton of meat off of him and plan to do a skull mount with the rack.

Outstanding! I've started to realize I'm not as young as I used to be, I see the need to devise a plan to be able and load deer by myself in the future. Luckily, I can still hoist them in the back of the truck or ranger. Although its getting a little risky at time with all the crap in the back. I have to clear a spot to stand and then pull the antlers up to the tailgate, with rope tied to them, then i can heave em in the back.
At times I envision myself having an accident and falling out, keeps me hyper aware of what I'm doing though.
