I was using plain old 180 Hornady Interlock Flat Base in my 308 at 2650 FPS. I shot an oryx at about 150 yards from sticks. Bullet placement was perfect. Right on the shoulder. The oryx collapsed at the shot, and never took a step. To my horror, I walked up the dead Oryx and realized I didn't get an exit. I could see a bulge in the hide and could feel the bullet under the skin meaning it went through both shoulders of a the big oryx but couldn't break the hide. The disappointment continued when the recovered bullet only weighed 103.4 grains. Should I call Hornady and complain? Here is a pic of the 40.5" oryx I killed with said Hornady. Just think how much deader he would be with an exit and high bullet weight retention.

Looks fine to me Scott In about 1990 I was working the sporting goods counter at the Huntsville Wal-Mart when a dude walks in and sets a mushroomed soft point on the counter in front of me. He explains that the slug came from a box of Remington .30-06 150 Grain Core-Lokt Pointed Soft Points bought at the Huntsville Wal-Mart, he shot a whitetail deer, the bullet did not go all the way through, and he wanted his money back on the entire box of ammunition. I asked him where the deer was, and he said it was at Tallent's getting processed. I then asked so that means you recovered the deer, and he said yes. I then asked where the other 19 rounds of this defective ammunition were, and he said he shot them sighting and practicing with the rifle. I then told him there are no returns on ammunition and that he would not be able to get his money back. The Department Manager and the Store Manager told him the same thing, and he stormed off. If you recovered the animal, is the bullet really defective? Just my .02, LeonCarr

Fake news! There is no way a mere cup-n-core bullet can kill anything bigger than a cockroach!
Seriously though, nice Oryx congratulations!

Seriously though, nice Oryx congratulations! Wasn't even a boat tail with a plastic point, just a flat based Spitzer. The horror!

Bullet placement was perfect. What is the problem. He just said he put it there and the shot was perfect?????? Where else would he expect the bullet to be?

If you would have used a Hornady Ballistic Tip his tongue would be hanging out..... a sure sign of being deader. Well done picture and nice Oryx!

LOL. Thank fellas. Yes, this was SARCASM. I always get ticked when people complain about bullet failures when the bullet did its job and killed the animal quickly.
I was very impressed with the Hornady InterLock performance. It was perfect in my book. It did a ton of damage in a strait line through both shoulders.
Really just wanted to show off the oryx.
