Ben and I got together for another good night of hunting. I think we shot another 3 hogs, but did not recover them. Honestly, I don't think we even looked in the right area for 2 of them and with all that went on at the time, didn't realize we were missing their areas in our search.

They’re dead - it was really dark out when we got into that first group (before moon rise) so yeah it was difficult to orient and search once we started collecting the bodies.

So dark in fact that I tripped over a hog I had drug over to the group (didn’t have my head lamp on).

Ain’t it great when you body check the ground ....

Be nice to have a Drone with Thermal to search out downed animals in tall grass and wheat. Rig it up to drop small LED strobes if hunting alone or if with a partner....just hover over the animal.

Yes, that would be really cool. However, being 2020, it would be my $6-8K thermal drone that somehow glitched while flying over a tank, lost flight control and crashed into the water where it would sink 10 feet to the muddy bottom or crash 50 feet up in a tree. I don't have a thermal drone, but that is what I would see happening, there in the dark...

Funny how sometimes a particular animal will just become a bullet sponge. I've seen it with deer, pigs, coyotes, bobcats. Every now and then you just have to flat shoot one to pieces to get them on the ground.

Sometimes, once the adrenaline flows, things can be tough. I think that is only the 2nd pig I have seen hit by 2 shots on an opening salvo that didn't go down.

Awesome shooting! Do you guys actually weight each hog, or are you just great at estimating given how often you're out there shooting them? Also, just curious, do y'all keep any of the meat, or does your volume of shooting pretty much prevent that? Again, nice work!!

We don’t collect meat unless somebody has asked us for some , last receipt was the landowners neighbor looking to make sausage.

We use a tape measure to conduct the heart girth weight estimation process - google it , you’ll like it
