I have killed way more deer with a muzzleloader than a centerfire. I’ll even take my front stuffer during general gun season a good bit. It does tend to build good shot habits. One and done.

Or I can just loan you my .50 flinter and you can use it 'til the feeling passes!

I hunted an entire season with it and came away with MUCH more respect for my forebears...

I like the McWhorter 500 yard front loader

this is a problem, , muzzleloaders have their own season in some places, and can kill at 500 yards hummmmm

Now if it was like it was, it would be better

same with archery, crossbows, just rifles shooting arrows

cheers My first deer rifle twas a Kentucky.45 ...
Make that first shot count, & teaches maintenance...

All the new high-tech, fancy cloths, scent, weapons & ammo, powder, & every thing else hunters use these days,
Yet wildlife hasn't changed...

True words! Anyone that thinks that their follow-thru is where it ought to be need only shoot a "rock lock" for a bit!

Despite great care in loading the rifle (and especially the pan) the same way each time, I'd get three different ignitions:

1. BOOM!
2. Click BOOM!
3. Click. Fizz. BOOM!

Hang with that sight picture...it'll go off directly!

confused2 ya never had the,
4th. Click. Fizz. (Silence) ?

On first deer, 8point, had the k- bang but no boom..
Sighted in the night before, cleaned, run several dry patch's but forgot bang dryfire with cap... loaded & let sit over Night, twas also in MN winter time...
Did get an 8 pointer later that day..
Have had the same with a flint lock, no kaboom...

Keep your head held high & your powder dry...

Truth be told, this is the biggest reason I quit hunting with my flinter. As much as I loved the challenge, I was scared motherless that I'd wind up setting the pasture on fire!
