Could use some suggestions on audio books or quality podcasts for a16 hr (one way) road trip to the mountains of NC, starting tomorrow. I've done the drive quite a few times as my wife is from there and we visit the inlaws often. Have found audio books to be the best. My go to's are usually about drug cartels,DEA/CIA, conspiracy theories, and true crime...but open to any suggestions you might have.

Sword and Stone is a great true crime podcast, the guy uses actual audio from the interrogations etc.

Mike Rowe's "The Way i heard it" is very good. each episode is about 15 minutes long. and he tells stories in way that leave you in sort of a 'suspense' the whole time and ties up everything within the last minute or so.

I second Mike Rowe's "The Way I Heard It" is great. If you are interested in Texas Oil history, how the families like Hunts, Bass, etc. made their fortunes, founding of the Dallas Cowboys, AFL, etc. It has some conspiracy theory mixed in as well, "The Big Rich" is pretty interesting and crazy the amount of money some of these people had all the way back to the 30s/40s

Any of the James Patterson or Nelson Demille books are good.

I really liked "13 Moons" by Charles Frazier. He is the same guy who wrote "Cold Mountain". Actually, anything by Charles Frazier.

I departed my usual listening habits (true crime, western history, civil and WW2) and downloaded " A Short History of Nearly Everything " by Bill Bryson and it is outstanding. Basically a walk through time of scientific breakthroughs and discovery. What went right, wrong, and where we fit as a species. Long at 18 hours, but it good.

Loved all of them. I'm now read a true book called A Time to Kill for the second time. It better the second time around because I do not have to rush to the end.

An oldie but funny series is Hank the Cow Dog. Kept all 5 of us entertained on multiple 16 hour road trips. After all, he is Head of Ranch Security! Be sure to get the original series, not the remake.

Nelson DeMille’s book “Up Country” would be a good one. Google it up.

I’ve read and forgotten a lot of books, but that one made an impression.

I've forgotten a few. I'll click to download one and get a message that says you already own this book. Check your archives.

I'll second 13 Moons. It's excellent.

Another real good one is The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King. Be sure not to miss this one. It's not the usual Stephen King spooky/horror stuff, but a good story with a really good easy to listen to reader.

I've read all of Pat Conroy. I would imagine that Prince of Tides would be like listening to poetry.

I highly recommend books by Brad Thor, Stephen Baldacci, Vince Flynn, or James Patterson. Especially when the books are written by them and not just co-authored. We also listen to a lot of John Grisham for a slower pace. Enjoy!

Robert Galbreath - Main Character is Cormoran Strike. Private Detective. Great, great stories. Robert Galbreath is the pen name for J.K Rowling who wrote the Harry Potter series. Really well written and narrated. narration is the key. A good one makes the book great. A bad one and it doesn't matter how good the book is.

Greg Isles. The series is set in Natches Mississippi. Solid crime series. Again, very well written. IF your wife is traveling with you, she will enjoy both. Mine did.

If you like Fantasy, check out the Witcher series. Excellent story lines and brilliant narration. Netflix started a series from it.

I agree on the Cormoran Strike series. Great books from front to back.

Greg Isles lives in Natchez, and so do some of my family. They can’t stand him, saying what a jerk he is. Every time I see one of his books, I remember that and pass on the book.
