Joined a new lease between Fredericksburg and Mason. Paid for 2 spots because my youngest who is 9 wanted to hunt so bad. He has been shoot non stop to get ready and is locked and loaded. Saturday evening he did it. The buck he wanted came out and presented him the shot. He was not nervous or shaking. Dropped the 8 point. A great deer for his first and from the smile you can see he is beyond excited. As a dad I was so proud, all you dads know what I am talking about, WHAT A FEELING! He also killed 3 hogs. He was on fire and is forever hooked.
That’s awesome! I also killed my first deer on our family lease between Mason and Fredericksburg, but that was 46 years ago. The brow tines on your sons buck are almost as big as that spike I killed so long ago.
Congratulations on your son's first buck!! It's a beauty! My 27 year old son was also 9 when he killed his first buck. And add the excitement of 3 hogs too, doesn't get any better than that.
Just curious as to what rifle he's using, the one shown in the photo? I always enjoy hearing what rifle and caliber is doing the job for another hunter, especially for the youngsters. It's definitely working for him.

I was going to add that in the post but left it out. Its a Mossberg youth 243 that I won in a drawing about 8 years ago. Has been a great gun. I have killed many animals with it and the boy is keeping it going.
Congratulations to your son on a great first deer. He set the bar way higher than I did on my first deer. Really like that he got to take his first one with a rifle you had also taken deer with. Passing on the family tradition.

Oh yes, the little rifle that could. I bought my youngest one years ago and liked it so much I bought one for myself when Academy had them on sale. Perfect rifle for young and old shoulders (like mine) alike.
Again, congratulations to you both.

Yes he set the bar way high. Guess we have to keep hunting for the bigger one! Or maybe dad will get to pull the trigger!
