That you have gotten handed down to you?

I was trying to figure out which pan/pot I was going to use to make some stew in yesterday and ended up using my mothers old Dutch Oven that she use to cook my favorite meals in back in the 60's, there is no telling how long she had it before then? But I thought it was pretty cool that I ended up with it and her Holy Bible which is a treasure trove of family information.

What have you had handed down to you and how old is some of your stuff?

My moms Dutch oven on the right, the bigger one on the left I got a a garage sale for $10.00 about 5 years ago.

I have a book my great uncle made tracking my family lines back to Germany. It is about 300 pages long.

From another uncle i have an antique wash stand and an antique victrola. The victrola has two megaphone pieces a decorative one and a plain one has about 100 of the vinyl cylinders it plays from. It works. Supposedly worth $5,000 when i got it about 10 years ago, but part of accepting the gift was agreeing not to sell it. Its pretty but we have never played it. I would never have acquired either of them on my own, but i do smile when i look at them and think of the past.

An old coffee grinder (early 1900s, and my memaws cooking dish that she made her famous thanksgiving dressing in every year. I’ve been making her recipe in it since she past but it’s not like hers. When she gave me the recipe, it was all by memory (failing) and was “just a tad of this and that”. No exact measurements..

Waiting to inherit 2 bibles from the late 1700s, one in English, one in Sweden. My 14x great grandmother used the two side by side to learn English when she came to the states.

My mom has my great grandmother's cast iron skillets, I learned to cook a lot of food for the first time on those two skillets and they will be passed to me so I can teach my son on them. I also have several guns from my grandfather.

I can't remember if I've shared this on here or not, but it's pretty damn cool IMO. My Grandfather was a Highway Patrolman in OK for most of his career. Upon retiring from highway Patrol, he became chief of Police in Pawhuska, OK. This is his revolver that he carried as Chief of Police, and the holster that he carried it in. It is a S&W j-frame with the grip safety, which I have pinned. According to the serial number, it is circa 1954. Somewhere, I have a photo of him wearing it. On the rare occasion that I have to wear a tucked in shirt with slacks, I'll carry his revolver in a desantis softuck. [Linked Image]

I have my Dad's Winchester Model 94 30-30 he purchased in 1950, It's pristine. Also have his Remington model 721 in 30-06 with a straight 4X Weaver scope. Gun is also in excellent condition.
I'll pass these onto my boys when the time is right.

I have my grandfather's .22 rifle. It's still deadly, but on squirrels now. Don't know what he used it on at his South Dakota ranch. I treasure the heck out of it.

I inherited my Great Grandpa’s rifle.
Marlin 30-30 octagon barrel.
Made in 1893,it has a four digit serial number.
I have the leather scabbard he carried it in on the side of his horse as well.
The rifle is in good shape, and I have killed a few deer with it.

I have several things....a few guns, lots of tools, the flag from my grandfathers funeral, a wall clock, my great grandmothers pie safe, and several small antiques. Nothing very valuable to anyone but me.

I have a few things. Don’t care about the value. I’ve learned it’s all just stuff. I’d rather have all of them back and have absolutely nothing to my name.

My Grandfathers pocket watch. He hid it up his rectum during the battle of the bulge. I've posted the story on here before.

I have lots of them...
My dad's office desk and chair. Office lamp. A 20 ga. shotgun with a hand carved stock from my stepfather. He made a living custom carving stocks.
The flag from my dad's funeral and the medals he earned in WW2.
Our dining room set was my wife's grandmother's. We've used it for 39 years.
There's many more.

One of the best is pictures handed down from family members through the years. If the place ever catches fire, I'm grabbing those first.

A slide rule used on the Apollo missions. It was used by my great uncle who was a Chief Quality Control Engineer on the Saturn V rockets that sent men to the moon. It has been passed down from engineer to engineer in my family. I passed it on to my son-in-law when he got his P.E.
