Perfect for chasing big reds down at the jetties. Good thing I have a trip planned to head to Port O'Conner this evening so I can get up early, challenge the elements and hopefully, enjoy some tight lines with some good people.

You've got the attitude of people I like to be around. I tell my wife that the first time I say I can't go, it might be raining, just to put a bullet in my head because I've stopped living and just gotten old.

I found the best reds between the big jetties this time of the year. You might find some calm water there depending on the wind and tides. Don't even think about crossings the bay if there is more than a light chop.

I started fishing down there for a few years after the big freeze of 81. Rented a cabin from a retired guide. He flew one of those light aircrafts. He told us shout seeing a school of reds for several days just up the Intercostal Waterway from The Fishing Center where we launched. We found them big time. Really into them as boats blew by us on the way to their fishing holes..

Did a lot of wading out at the Peninsula back in the mid to late ‘80’s.

I've quail hunted near Point Comfort. Its just west of Lavaca Bay. Remember the winter of 81 it got too cold. We put the dogs in the box and headed to the domino parlor. There were frozen whitecaps on the bridge pilings.

From the Coast to the Brush Country to Young County etc, how do you find time to work? Asking for a jealous friend.....

Added bonus - high winds after the rain stops mid-day. Except for a single rain jacket, my waterproof bibs & such are at the lease. Might have to fill a flask.
Here's hoping I can post a photo of a minnow upon my return.
freerange, someday I'll write a book but no one will buy it and probably no will believe it anyway.
Y'all all stay safe!

Wednesday at Port O'Conner? Yeah, it was nice. The norther blew down the bay so it was an easier ride out that what I expected. Even so and for whatever reason, we never saw another boat. Got out to the jetties and thought my eyes were playing games with me - got to see a reverse chop. The wind was blowing so hard the whitecaps were coming off away from the shore. The rain wasn't so bad. It was a good horizontal rain. Never got cold, but guess I am going to have to seek advice from BoBo, my leather gloves were saturated pretty quickly. We did find some green water. It was on the outside leg of the North Jetty. I would have thought every fish in the area would have been there. Unfortunately, we did not limit out. We pulled in too many over sized ones ( a dozen or so) and were not willing to waste a tag on something over 36 inches. The biggest we hauled in was 40 and a half. I know someone took photos, but my phone was conveniently left behind. Went out yesterday morning also. Kind of a repeat without the rain. The wind was humming and we could not find any water other than milky brown. Caught a handful of oversized ones and a smattering of brackets, whiting and such. Here's a couple of photos of Jake with the first being just at 40 and the second being in the 36-37 inch range. Look at the girth difference. For each inch longer in length, those there fish certainly thicken up. Wish somes of y'all could have been with us. Btw, we brought in filets and had them cook it up at Josie's. Super wonderful as usual.

Love Josie's. I'm sure that I've fished within casting distance of where yo were anchored. I was in 40 to 50 feet of water.
Also, I always considered reds to precious to fry. Glad I learned to filet them by pulling the rib bones away from the ribs rather than trying to cut through them.

Looks like a fun trip! Was there not much other boat traffic? If not, that’s always a bonus.
Fresh cooked right off the boat is always the best!

No boats on Wednesday (none) - thinking nobody else was brave enough (ie: that stupid) to get out there. There were many more out on Thursday.
