Midwayusa.com has some 143 grain factory 2nds in 6.5 for $28. I ordered some, and I can't tell the difference between them and my regular Hornady 143 eld-x. Correct diameter, weight, etc. Everything seems correct.

I live close to the Hornady factory. As a result, probably 90% of what i shoot are Hornady 2nds. Been doing that since around 1995. Never had any issue with any of their 2nd bullets. Only issue now is you can’t go in their factory due to Covid. Not sure how many thousands I have so I should be covered for awhile.

What could the defect be? I'm interested but wondering what to expect.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I just ordered 200. I will compare to the ELD-x's to see if they perform the same.

There are some reviews on MidwayUSA's website explaining some of the defects.. For the most part its a few missing tips and minor weight variations.

I did find 2 or 3 missing tips per box, but on the weight variations, of the dozen or so that I did weigh, the high was 143.4 grains and the low was 143 grains even.

They used to put the reason on the box but they don’t do it anymore. Some that i remember were: set up, cosmetic, won’t group, etc. I asked an employee one time “who would buy a box that said “won’t group”. He told me that means it won’t group as Hornady wanted to load it. Doesn’t mean someone else couldn’t get it to group with their own load data. I’ve also seen boxes marked with and without cannelure. I took that to mean they were designed to have it and didn’t or vice versa. Hope that helps.
