My 12 month contract with Dish ran out again and went up 44%. I called them again to negotiate a new 12 month contract or cancel and use another provider. The representative had me on hold and looked up all of my info before talking to me. He already knew why I was calling and said I could continue with my discount I was already receiving for another 12 months. No negotiating on my part at all. Do not pay full price. When your contract expires, call an account specialist and ask what they will do to keep your business and not use another provider. It took me about 10 minutes on the phone and saved me over 500 bucks per year for the 2nd year in a row. Easy money.

I had already looked at Direct TV and was not impressed with their prices for new customers anyway.

My Dish network receiver sounds like a small diesel engine idling.

Yes, you've got to reach what is called a "Retention Rep" to get a better deal, which usually happens after you select the menu option to disconnect service.

If you want their absolute lowest rate, you've got to request a disconnect and wait for them to call you a week or so before the disconnect date.

Yes, it's a game that most people don't want to play but just go with the flow.

I always hit the cancel my service option. It immediately transfers to a rep in the US. They are easy to talk to and negotiate with. Also if you're paying for a service plan cancel it. Dish lost a class action suit that like 13 States filled against them about the service clause. So if something breaks you call and activate your service plan. Get your new equipment covered under it. And before they hand up tell them to cancel your service plan. I was told this by a Dish rep when I was negotiating a couple years ago. I've used it a few times to get a new receiver and remotes. Works every time.

So many streaming services out there, Dish and Direct are no longer the only major options for TV service, and they are hurting.

I have to do this every year with U-verse. When I retire next year I'll probably just cut it.

Hang tough. They will go down. I went from Dish to Dirct TV.. Dish emailed me that they would do anything to get me back.
