I've done the upgrades on the 22/45 and it's still not what a stock Buckmark already is. but, I will keep it with a red dot and buy another Buckmark to keep as an iron sight gun. Smith and Wesson model 41 is the cadillac and still my dream gun. Some day! As far as revolver, 617 all the way. I have the first gen(no dash), 6 shot and will never sell it.

Since purchasing my first can, a 22 sparrow, I'm a self-proclaimed expert on 22 pistols. The 22/45 by a noticeable margin. It's the best of the ones I've owned and/or extensively shot; which include a sig 1911-22 (not a kit but a ground up factory 1911 in 22lr), walther p22, sig mosquito, buckmark (don't own one but a close second).
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

Hit the pawn shops and gun shows and buy 3, maybe 4 Ruger Mark I's. I have one that's 51 years old, hits dime sized dots and shoots anything, including CCI CPHP's . I gave $250.00 for it.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I've got a Mark I with the 5 1/2 inch bull barrel. It's hung in there with every other 22, whether semi or revolver, that it's been around. Had a Mark II with the 6 7/8 inch barrel and the Mark I would run rings around it. Ended up trading in the Mark II on something else.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

No idea of the cost but if you can find one, an DAN WESSON revolver with a 6 or 8 inch barrel. Hopefully you might get the extra barrel that came with them.

Semi Auto or Single Action? If semi auto lots of great recommendations already. If single action I have a full size GSG 1911 22LR pistol and I like. Some of the super light loads like the CCI Quiet (750 fps) won’t cycle it, even with a suppressor. But all regular loads will cycle it even without the suppressor. It is extremely light though, because of the magnesium slide almost feels like a toy but runs like a top.

You said a SA pistol and nothing more so that could mean different things.

If by s/a you mean semi-auto then by far the best overall option is the Ruger in one of the various Mark versions. There are so many aftermarket options you can “Barbie Doll” the crud out of it. Another good option albeit with less aftermarket options is the Browning Buckmark.

For the money right out of the box, Buckmark with a rail.......I own many .22 s/a, and this design with the open breach on both sides allows you to shoot alot more rounds before cleaning and the trigger is sweet right out of the box.....

You said a SA pistol and nothing more so that could mean different things. Your right. I should've stated semi automatic, which is what I'm after. Y'all are awesome. So appreciate the feed back, and Patrick thanks. I may take you up on that. Lots of options, and one other I want to check out, is the Smith & Wesson Victory. Target performance center. Within the budget as well.

That S&W Victor is a nice gun Janie FWIW, I messed with a "Franken" .22/.45 Ruger. It was a nice gun, very accurate, with a Burris Fastfire red dot. DONT DO IT !!!. They are VERY hard to take down, even gunsmiths struggle with it. IF you go Ruger get the NEW model which Ruger fixed the problem and they are very easy to take down
