Never shot or own either and my question is "which of the two is the stoutest?" Thanks Daniel

10mm. But if you do not reload the difference is minimal. Factory 10mm ammo is mostly watered down.

40s&w was developed when the 10mm was determined to be too powerful to control in LE situations so they cut the case 1/8” and used less powder.

10mm without question.

10mm. I love mine, and there are some good options on the market for full powered loads.

10mm fanboys often call its little brother the "40 Short & Weak."

10 is hotter, but I have some .40 hand loads that are within 100fps of 10 mil

I’ve loaded 40’s also very near 10mm velocity, however it was in a custom bar-sto barrel fully supported chamber!

You can really run a 10 hard if you hand load, power pistol is excellent for it.

Full power loads, the winner is 10mm without question. Watered down 10mm loads are very close to .40 Short & Weak.

I have both calibers, and shoot Chad’s 180 and 200 grain loads in my 10mm. It is a hammer.

Paul Harrell has a video about this and goes into the ballistic minutia. The 10mm is definitely stouter, but the .40 doesn't give up nearly as much as people think.

As stated above: comparing full power or top shelf boutique ammo 10mm wins hands down. You can buy 10mm that is real close to 40 S&W.

For social work the Federal HST 180gr is very impressive.

Also, gusick is a big Harris/Biden supporter. Very hypocritical of him to be owning any firearm other than a double barrel shotgun so he can give it two blasts from his balcony.

The age ol bebate...

16vs12 had the 16 first... 12 had more power, prices of 16 ammo went up. bang now chooten 20gauge...
Now doing the 380vs9mm... 9mm more power, every one wants that... 380 cheaper ammo, but put on hold due ta demand for the 9mm ammo.

confused2 never got inta the hot loads, standard loads for me .357 mag slinger whin reloading, plinking & 🐗 hog hunts...
Me first deer rifle twas the Kentucky .45... Used what was standard, did the job...
Pard slinger , & i doing the reloading .223, i prefure book standard loads, he wanten do little hotter loads...

"yingyang One must learn limitation of oneself, over weapon & ammo of ones choice for true gun control...
pappy

Ol school shooters, single shot, had make first one count... Two many relly on follow up...
With the Kentucky .45 simple load, worked fine, more powder, just more smoke & kick...
Twas the control of ones aim that made the differance...

I totally dislike both and you can add in the .357 Sig!!!

9mm or .45 in semi-autos or .38 Spl or .357 Mag in revolvers is the way to go.

9mm is the most popular handgun cartridge in the WORLD and the .40 Short & Weak is dying a fairly quick death. A 10mm won't do anything a .45 ACP +P won't do better.

Like the 6.5 Creedmoor (I don't like it either except as a range toy) the firearm industry has done a great job popularizing the 10mm of late.

I'm sure the bashing will pour in, but after nearly 50 years of running a business I've got pretty thick skin boxing

I don't plan to buy either but I listened to a discussion last week about the 2 rds. Neither of the 2 guys are knowledgably gun nuts but both think they are. I have shot all the heavy recoil handguns that I want to. I shot a lot of IHMSA WITH THE 357 HERRET in a T/C Contender 10 inch for several years. Thanks Daniel

This is asinine.....

Just kidding Bill, I’ve had one 10mm and I loaded it to full power max load and it was absolutely violent to shoot. It was out of a KRISS Vector with a pistol brace and I didn’t like it at all.

I’ll stick to the ole 9 milli

What do you know about guns and ammo? 🤣🤣. I'll default to Bill's response, but I will say I love shooting my Springfield XDM in 10mm with a red dot. Felt recoil is less than a .40 in my humble opinion.

A buddy of mine, a retired game warden, has shot deer with both the .40 and the 10mm.

He says that the only difference between the .40 and 10mm on deer at under 50 yards is the tree behind the deer will be deader with the 10mm.

Almost identical wound channels and exit holes. Comparing a handloaded .40 to a factory loaded 10mm you are only giving up about 100-150 fps.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr
