So, it's hunting season and I have been buying a few things online to prepare. I get an email from Paypal stating "significant changes" have been noticed on my account and are requesting a copy of my photo ID and receipts from recent purchases. Until I comply, my account is frozen.

Are they monitoring what people buy, now? And especially if it's related to hunting? They won't even let me close my account with complying to their request. HMMMMM!!!

Anyone else?

That's a scam. Did you actually check your PP account?

Yep, nothing new. Did you buy any guns, ammo or gun parts using PayPal? They are NOT a bank so they don't have to play by banking rules. I have heard stories of them confiscating peoples money because they violated PayPal terms & conditions. They are not a 2A friendly business.

I haven’t used PP in months but I used it the other day for purchasing some ammo which they had absolutely no clue about and I received this, I simply deleted it but who knows. Smelled scammy but it’s scary that they flagged my email so quick.

Sounds scammy. I apparently won't be on here too much longer 'cause I had a couple of calls from "law enforcement with the Federal Reserve" and a "warrant is being issued". roflmao

But... "they" ARE monitoring everything you buy, everything you look at, and for how long...all the time. ninja

How did you purchase the rifle? I hope there was no mention of the rifle on paypal. They're notoriously anti 2A and will freeze your account and confiscate the money from the purchase of guns and ammo. That is why anyone that uses paypal to transfer money for guns, ammo, and gun parts say "discreate paypal" Meaning no mention of the products you're receiving because paypal will throw a hissy fit. I'm guessing you purchased from an individual because no gun stores or ammo makers are allowed to use paypal to run CC's.

Regardless this is a scam and I hope you didn't send in any information.

You're hosed. Even though it was legit (shipped to FFL) you violated PayPal terms and conditions. I do NOT think their email is a scam, especially if your account is locked right now. Good luck!

this

Without going into detail, Paypal took $7k out of my account years ago. I haven't done business with them since and refuse to do so. They don't have to follow banking laws and there's very little legal or procedural recourse in a diapute.

I sell a lot of knives and they consider those "weapons" and is a violation of their agreement...so if a buyer wants to use it, i just make sure they don't put "knife" anywhere in there...haven't had any problems as of yet! . Paypal is very anti gun/knife/weapon...Wish i could find a good alternative but VENMO has the same thing from what i can tell because it's run by Paypal

Zelle (through Wells Fargo) is good, no issues with guns, ammo or related accessories however once you send the money you cannot retract so you need to make sure you know who you're dealing with. Make sure they are reputable.

To be clear for those aren't familiar with Zelle, it is not specific to Wells Fargo. The following banks also use it:

* Bank of America
* BB&T
* Capital One
* JPMorgan Chase
* PNC Bank
* U.S. Bank

Maybe there are more.

It may or may not be a scam. A ton of people are getting emails like this right now and some say scam others are legitimate and PayPal is locking their accounts.

The email address is always a easy giveaway, not the name but the actual address its self.

Nobody but a scammer is going to ask you to send a photo ID or any other kind of sensitive information by email.
