Sad the poor man lost his life trying to help, strange thing is I don't believe this type stuff was happening until recently, I just don't remember any of my buddies shooting unarmed people, black or white. Maybe I'm just out-of-tough with the real world..... the standards for employment have been cut across the board. Defunding IMO started years ago. I know here in dallas it seems they hire anyone that will apply. How many years now has dallas been saying theres no money for police. My agency turns down 200 hundred applicants for every slot they fill. Please quit talking.

I’ve said for years...
It should be a requirement that all LE are BJJ blue belts...minimum
Call me crazy but at least know what you’re talking about first That puts the officers within striking distance if they have to have the mindset to to H2H combat first. I like where your head’s at but still Given the options, it’s the best I’ve come up with I’ll bet I can find a 125-135 lb BJJ blue belt male than can beat the snot out out 99 percent of LE. Actually, I know 1 he’s maybe 140 soaking wet. Nice guy I know how to fix that It’ll be better than what we have There is a huge difference in fighting for your life and fighting in competition. If you haven't been there I can't explain it to you. Good gosh, everyone is a law enforcement expert.

Highly highly doubt the veracity of his "claim." That completely contradicts the little bit of information the Texas Rangers have released.

from the blaze...
On Monday, the Wolfe City Police Department announced Lucas's suspension. Shortly after the news, the Texas Rangers arrested the officer and charged him with murder in connection with Price's shooting death. Lucas was booked into the Hunt County Jail and held on $1 million bond. He bonded out that evening, according to KTVT-TV.

What does it matter which jail he's in, posting bond or not? Is he going to skip the country? No.

I agree, would like to see a video of what happened, he was probably convulsing on the ground, maybe tried to pull the tazer prong out or maybe that is what the cop thought. Who knows, but today is the first time we are hearing the other side of the story.

The young man was 22 yo, starting a new career in LE doing a job that few people want. He made a terrible mistake and saw his future and that of the young man he shot change forever. I'm sure he'd choose differently if given the choice.
Not to downplay the seriousness of taking someones life but everyone makes mistakes. Until the facts come out in court it's silly playing armchair quarterback.

Yep , the standards to get in are harder and some of the new are softer including some of those coming out of the military. I’m sure cities the size of WC aren’t attracting tops candidates. I feel bad for both sides

Texas Rangers have released the probable cause affidavit. It's on facebook. Kind of interesting.

do most cities require a college degree? Most? No, some do. College Degree doesn't make you a good Police Officer or Firefighter. And as far as when we get new guys I never ask, because I don't give a chit. I ask what they did for a living before getting hired on the FD. Some life experience, and some hard work goes much farther than any college degree. When a city is paying peanuts, they're going to get monkeys. A city that has competitive pay will draw a large pool of people. A city that is extremely low paid is going to have a much shorter list of candidates to pick from.

Surely there are “officers” who desire and choose to work for small town departments. In the education field many teachers chose to go to bigger districts to get more money. Many chose to go to small districts which pay “peanuts.” There are some extremely qualified teachers who chose to work in small districts for smaller paychecks/peanuts. I am not seeing the connection between amount of pay and the quality of applicants/monkeys. In most instances, all things equal, the person with the college degree will get a better shot at the job than “life experiences and hard work.” I am sure there are some fields that may not run true in this scenario, but few.

Some cities require a degree. Some may give extra points on the written exam. So do not give extra points on the written exam. I'm not saying the Wolfe City officer was an idiot. I'm just telling yall what "can" happen. Good guys in low paying departments often leave pretty early for a higher paying department. Some want to stay where they are. Some cannot get hired anywhere else.
