Just wondering. I've heard of people taming a lot of critters including bobcats, coons & skunks. It seems to be pretty difficult to do with any animal that is truly born wild(?)

In the eary '60s I lived on a ranch deep in the redwoods of Northern California and had a racoon as a kid. Something killed a female and all but one of her litter. I found him still alive, so young that his eyes were not open yet. I took him home and bottle fed based on instructions from our vet. When he got big, I set him free but he hung around. He liked to ride on my shoulder. Had him for almost three years before he started staying away longer and longer - then never came back.
We had cougars, coyotes and bobcats so he likely became a meal.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

Pre teenage years I had a pet skunk. It was an albino too. It lived outside in a hutch most of the time, but was paper trained and could be kept in my room when I was home. It would run a pattern around my room for hours if I let it. About the personality of a guinea pig. I also trapped from the late 1960s to early 70s with help from my grandfather. Sometimes I would keep young possums in an outdoor cage for a few weeks just for the fun of it. You would be surprised at just how easy they tame. It is not unusual for me to this day when a passenger in vehicles on hunting leases to to jump out and run down a possum, grab it, then run back and throw it in the vehicle with the passengers to see what happens.

My first wife tried to tame me. I kept peeing on the floor, so she let me go.

Hunters on my friends family ranch in Brackettville killed a mama Javelina and the baby stood on the body for a while. One of the hunters grabbed it and within a week it was riding on his shoulder in the truck.

Raised a racoon that I found in a creek bed. He was just a baby when I fond him and we had to bottle feed him. I did the same thing, had him for a year or so. He lived in the house, wrestled with the dog, generally a cool pet. As he got older and larger, the play got rougher and was border-line mean/fighting. Brought him to the the Basin one day and cut him loose. My worst memory... brought him to the vet for some shots, left him a couple days, picked him up and was on the way home in my Triumph TR7, freshly cleaned interior and him sitting on my shoulder with his head out the window. Heard an odd sound, followed quickly by a ferocious smell... He had the runs and crapped all down the front of me. It was awful as it was right there by my face. That was a long drive home.... Had a squirrel named Pete, bottle raised. His brother, Repete, didn't make it. After a few years Pete became wild and joined his wild brothers hopping trees.

Wild pig, have raised two of them over the years. Both times killed the momma and the little ones just stayed there. They were probably less than a week old. Bottle raised them. They act like big sweet dogs once grown. Would roll over on their side for belly scratches.

I’ve tried many times, with various critters. Never had much luck.
I’ve always wanted a pet coon. A fella I know had one, and he said you have to catch them before their eyes open, or it won’t take. I eventually got my hands on a male and female that were quite young, but had open eyes, already. I gave it a shot. I don’t know if that fella is completely right, but I’ve got a couple scars to back up his claim.

Had a pet coon when I was about 13. Got it just before it’s eyes opened. Hung around for a couple years then didn’t return home. Good friend in high school had a pet skunk. Lots of snakes over the years. Have a tarantula for 8 years and still going. My uncle raised a bobcat kitten and it stayed around for about three years. Couple years ago had a young bobcat for a few days.... Strongly, strongly recommend against this....
