I prefer drinking whisky neat, but on occasion, I have found one that need a bit of water to make them taste right, Penderyn single malt come to mind. I currently have some Elijah Craig single barrel on hand that is so smooth adding anything to it would lessen the tasting experience. EC is one of my tops. Buffalo Trace and Four Roses as well. As you can tell I don’t spend a fortune on whiskey. But I’m ok with these. I've consumed far more than my share of Whisky, nearly always with a cube or two of ice. On a cold day a nice little shot right out of the bottle gets the blood warmed up, about a half a shot in a cup of coffee works well also. There's no wrong way to drink good Whisky. The one thing I never did was add anything sweet like soda's, not saying it wrong just never liked it that way. I do remember going to hunting camps with you and first light it would be a hot cup of coffee and a nice shot of whiskey.

I open every bottle and let it air out before the first pour. First pour is always neat. Second pour is over ice. Third pour is with just a few drops of water. 4th pour is if I really don’t like the first 3, and it’s usually into a decanter to give to people they mix with coke.
Every whiskey has its own unique flavors that differ from person to person. If you’re not trying to achieve the best flavor that whiskey has to offer for YOU, then you’re wasting a pour.

I like whiskey. It’s better chilled, not watered down. I keep my whiskey refrigerated.

Drink it however you want. I prefer ice. I prefer a splash of ginger ale if it’s not good bourbon or I’m going to be drinking all night.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

I like my coffee hot and the rest of my drinks cold. To each their own though. Black coffee and same on whisky, whether bourbon or scotch, minus some ice to cool it down. I've got sonic ice on demand, and there is nothing better than half a cup of ice filled to the ice line with bourbon.

Love to sip it neat at deer camp. The Baptists initially said I was an alcoholic to drink it that way. They'll consume 3 bourbon and 7's while I sip on my 2 fingers neat, but I am the alcoholic. Whatever.
Nothing wrong with it on the rocks either - that there guy from Harker Heights really nailed it with his comment. .

Neat, I keep my favorite glasses in the freezer next to my favorite silver tequila, vodka or clear rum. I can't drink brown liquor any more.

If I like it a lot, served neat, if it's decent it will be on the rocks. Then if I don't care for it at all, it gets on the rock with water treatment.

To each his own...much like that Ford vs. Chevy debate. Different strokes for different folks. I like it neat, over a little ice or mixed in...depends on the mood/day.

Good whiskey should be consumed however you like it and not how somebody tells you to enjoy it. Branch water, neat, on ice, rocks, etc. Enjoy it how you like it. THIS. Same thing with steak. And this IS true! It Is more enjoyable when you’re at the lease or somewhere with your buddies though. I’m getting to not care for my own company while drinking whiskey anymore. Are you an annoying drunk? He is an annoying sober! Room temp whiskey, and black coffee. Or you have lace on your panties. Oh look, yet another topic that Jason is the only true and definitive word on! Y'all do it his way or you ain't nothin'

Here's some good whiskey advice ... when you are out drinking with the guys, substitute a big glass of ice water for your whiskey in the middle of you drinking. It helps even out your night and makes you feel better in the AM.

Both, depending on my mood...but I hate watered down whiskey.
I usually keep a bottle of Jack Daniels Single Barrel - Barrel Proof in the freezer. Pour that over a single perfectly clear ball of ice and the ice will sit on the bottom of the glass for 10 min or so, before it melts enough to float.
I'm more likely to drink it neat sitting in front of a fire, holding my lady.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

I use to drink WL Weller when it was $26.00 a 1.75 liter bottle with coke, when it finally got to $36.00 I switched to Evan Williams 1783 Small Batch Reserve for $24.00 a 1.75liter and liked it better than Wellers with coke. About 6 months ago I started drinking it over a couple of cubes of ice and do not miss the coke at all I am no Whiskey/Bourbon expert but I like Evan Williams Small Batch Reserve better than Wellers even if they were the exact same price!
