Why do so few drivers have the courage to use them nowadays?

'Said goodbye to my wife at the front gate this afternoon and watched her pull out on to the Ranch Road, heading home; 'road was all clear both directions. Then I see a Ford pickup pulling a utility trailer come barreling around the curve, obviously going well over the speed limit, headed the same direction. I wave hello as they pass, but they're way too cool to wave back. Of course they roll up right on my wife's tail. I called her around 15 minutes later to check she got on I10 okay. I just didn't have a good feeling about the two idiots. She was fine, but of course they rode her butt the whole 14 miles.

There's at least five or six passing zones between here and there and it's a very low traffic road.

Yeah, you're a couple of real Billy Bad-azzes. 'Don't have the guts to pass a lady in her 60's going 60. bang

Maybe they didn’t wave because they were going way over the speed limit in a ford pickup pulling a utility trailer heading into a curve with someone in from of that that was not about to move out of their way and they were busy trying not end up in the ditch or in your wife’s backseat. confused2

There's a long view of the road at the gate. She was a quarter-mile down the road before they came around the curve. They had plenty of time to slow down, but they chose not to.

(Ignoring the old man obsessed with post count.)

Key phrase right there. "I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE!" Famous last words.

I take full advantage of passing areas, much to the dismay of my wife.

I take full advantage of passing lanes. They are one of the greatest inventions ever. Do not half azz it though. Send it and get around. Fuel is cheap right now

I see it all the time. Especially worse when someone gets behind a tractor. Just PASS the damn tractor. I got stuck at the back of a line 15 cars deep a couple weeks ago that refused to pass a tractor with numerous passing zones.

On the flip side - if the speed limit is 55-60 there is absolutely ZERO need for you to drive 35 mph - take the back roads if you want to drive that slow.

FM1376, Boerne to Fbg. 65MPH limit. Folks love to come out of Luckenbach with a couple of beers under their belt and then go 50mph, "Look at all the flowers!" They'll drop down to 45 going up hill. Then, when you pass, I had one guy (in a BMW, the small sedan grin) get up to 85mph, trying to keep me from passing. That's how people get shot by someone with less love for their fellow man than me.

Man there are some passing lanes on 90 west of Uvalde that are a joke, by the time the vehicle gets over you don't even have time to smash the peddle down to make a pass.

It seems like some people use you as a guide. They won't pass but they don't mind tailgating. even if you slow down they won't pass you. Irritates me.

I will make an opportunity if one doesn't present itself.

I used to drive to Port Aransas from Temple all the time. ----------- I dont know exactly why,but once you got South of I-10, EVERY driver that you would come up on from behind would pull over on the shoulder to let you pass. After passing, I flash my emergency lights as a thank- you. Made the trip a lot easier.

I’ll just move over to the side, shoulder sometimes and let the crazy people pass. Maybe it’s an emergency? Who knows?

Sometimes you find them pulled over by police.

To be determined

Drives me crazy ------- as my wife comes up on a green light, she starts braking,,, keeps slowing down till she is thru the green light. If I am with her I start loudly saying "gas, gas, gas" ------- it generally leads to hostility. Older women are immune to advice.

My wife and my dad do the same thing. Drives me nuts.

I quit moving to the shoulder to let people pass. Used to do it all the time, a bit of our drive is on 2 lane with paved shoulders with 75 mph speed limit, but when we have a trailer hooked up most of the time let it ride at 65. Got so we couldnt make it to the ranch and home without plugging a truck/trailer tire. Quite moving onto the shoulder and rarely have to fix one now.

I do appreciate when people move to the shoulder to let me get around, but I wish they wouldn’t do it when another vehicle is coming, there’s still not enough room, and they’re throwing rocks all over my windshield.

It gets sketchy too when your over on the shoulder and the folks passing are taking their time and you have a nice guard rail coming.

I was raised to pull over and let 'em by, it was courteous. Today too many folks don't know what you're doing, and aren't paying attention enough to hit the gas when you get over. I rarely get passed anyway but if you're going to do it in 2020 I'm not endangering myself to help you. You gotta earn it now.
