Looks like I'll be in the first hunt group for this hunt, so that's a big +++++ in my view. Is there anyone here who has won this hunt that would like to share their experience? Any advice on the area will be appreciated!

I got drawn for the Jan hunt. I'd definitely be interested if anyone has info or experience they are willing to share.

12/7-12/9 12/07/2020 - 12/09/2020 is the first hunt for the park actually man - so, if that's your hunt date it looks like we'll be hunting during the same period.

Just an FYI, according to the TPWD stats found here: https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/hunt/public/public_hunt_drawing/statistics.phtmlFor 2017-2018 period, the the overall success rate was 89%. The overall success rate for the first 2 hunt periods was 100%. 92% for the third and 62% for the 4th. Total of 32 deer taken For 2018-2019 period, there are no stats listed (not sure there was a hunt that year??) For 2019-2020 period, the the overall success rate was 38%. The overall success rate for the first hunt period was 92%. It was 33% for the 2nd, 17% for the third and 8% for the 4th. Total of 18 deer taken. Some of the older periods: For the 2016-2017 period, the overall success rate was 34%. For the 2015-2016 period, the overall success rate was 71%. And there was also a "Gun Deer - Management" hunt there that year with a 55% overall success rate. For the 2014-2015 period, the overall success rate was 77%. In any case, it sounds like an awesome hunt with high odds of success... thought these stats might be appealing to you other guys that won this hunt as well ![smile smile](/forum/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif) Should be a fun hunt. Good luck to everyone.

Congratulations on the draw. Hunted it twice before.
Don't talk the talk if you didn't walk the walk.

Try to get the blind next to the men's restroom, wait till the deer step out onto the basketball court, then shoot between the picnic tables. ![grin grin](/forum/images/graemlins/default/grin.gif)

I hunted there a few years ago, they had blinds set up and drove you to them. Lots of deer, and the staff wants you to be successful. Good luck!

Hunted there last year. It’s by assigned blind and the staff take you to and from your blind. The park staff are great and very helpful. Have fun!! ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-26814-254153-c981adf2_37a6_4ed8_82e3_64040af4fa14.jpeg)

I got drawn last year for muzzleloader and hunted the first day and didn’t hunt the next. One deer was brought in fiirst day, one had to be looked for. Staff is great!! I sat at a play ground, corn was poured out under the swing. Take your corn too. They have blinds and chairs set up for you. Also had Deer chilie If you wanted it after hunt. I had a 35 yard shot if one came out. They were great but I won’t put in for it again. There were about 20-25 others there for fill in and one got drawn.

My first thought was 'he's gotta be joking' ... my second thought was 'well, sh$t, maybe the deer like moving through that area because people drop food' LOL I've never hunted a state park.

Yeah I was trying to make a funny. However I read a recap once on the bowhunting website about a hunt at Abilene state park and it was pretty much the scenario I described above.

Actually one year there was a blind setup by one of the bathrooms. I have never hunted that blind but I believe it was also heated. If they set it up there and you shoot out early you can go sit in the warm bathroom. ![muyloco muyloco](/forum/images/graemlins/default/rolleye0018.gif)
