Im not familiar with the area whatsoever, is it worth using the free permit i drew? Its all the way over in Nacogdoches after looking at a map but if its worth doing ill definitely make the drive. Anyone know somethin about that place..?

Why apply for the limited resource of a permit if you are not sure if you will use it or not?

I am sure lots of hunters who without a doubt would of hunted were not drawn.

Invest a day or two scouting Alabama Creek WMA by putting your boots on the ground. Time spent now scouting will help you be successful during the season.

Luck favors the prepared mind.

Alabama Creek WMA is a great area actually. Interestingly enough though, it's not the best area in that area that you can hunt. Alabama Creek WMA is just a small part (14,561 acres) of the Davy Crockett National Forest (160,647 acres)...and Davy Crockett has A LOT of deer in it. I have never been hunting in Davy and not seen deer. It's basically nothing like Sam Houston National Forest, which has a much smaller deer population. Of course, your doe permit isn't good for the rest of Davy, so you would be hunting for a buck only there. The Alabama Creek WMA, while a nice area, does have a healthy hunter population for the first few weeks of the season....but you can definitely get deer there or choose to head into other areas of Davy. I tend to hunt Davy every year, regardless of winning draws because it's fun to hunt and I know some great areas.

Congrats on the doe tag, lost my draw last year for it and went with Sam Houston this year (since it's closer to me) and lost that one too LOL .. One day I'll get a doe tag for Davy though and be able to take the endless number of damn does I always see in Davy.
