My Papaw. He was born 1-1-11. First person born in hospital that year.

Every year during the first week of spring and fall squirrel season I would go stay with him for a week at his squirrel camp. No plumbing, or electricity. He was in his 70s and would stay for a month. You could tell the Great Depression really impacted his life. He wasted nothing and could live off nothing.

We would squirrel hunt in the morning, bait and run trot lines after we got back from hunting.

It was an International. They made Farmall tractors back in the day. Not sure about the year. Around 1960.

Some of my fondest childhood memories were trot lining the White River where it merged with the Mississippi . Also, enjoyed catching bait. Funny thing, we often used crawfish, but we never ate them when I was growing up..

I didn’t eat them until I was in my 20s. They were just bait until then.

We used perch traps to catch our bait. Throw it under a low tree limb hanging out over the water. We would bait it left over biscuits or bread that we had for breakfast.

The perch could swim in but not out. Only problem was it attacked snakes sometimes and they couldn’t get out either.

Thank you. I wondered what they were doing with the blades. I’ve heard they had a saw mill because it a way to make money and be able to make your own lumber for houses since hauling it wasn’t easy back then. Once done they sold it and the mill moved on. That’s the story I was told anyway.

Yessir. I’m not sure for what though. My father just said he trained dogs for hunting.
