300 Win Mag...because too many folks who have them don't shoot them enough to get good with them. When I was guiding, we lost more wounded deer that had been shot (sorta) with a 300 Win Mag than with anything else. 2nd, was 7 mag.

X2.... I shy away from the .22’s but they will certainly work. For me personally I like my 30-30 when there is no chance for a long shot and I like my 30-06 for all my other deer hunting. I just get a good feeling thinking about a slowish moving 30 cal on deer size critters....

learn something new everyday and you will have never wasted a day.

A bullet that will penetrate into the vitals that's properly placed will kill any Whitetail that ever walked the GREAT state of Texas !!! However a "reasonably" powerful caliber like something in the .260 Rem to .30-06 class does give you a bigger margin for error..... Personally I don't like anything less than a 6.8SPC/.260 Rem or anything larger than a .270/.30-06

My vote most useless goes for the "over gunned" guy. We have a guy on our lease here that wounded and lost a nice buck in the 2017/2018 season with a 7mm Rem Mag, so he got a .300 Win Mag for the 2018/2019 season and wounded an even nicer buck!!! We never found either of them. Last season I shot over 40 deer for our management program with the 300 HAM'R which is basically a .30-30 out of an AR15 and recovered every one of them.
