Category: E-Postcard Archery Deer Area: Richland Creek WMA - North Unit Hunt Period: 12/11/2020 - 12/20/2020
Soooooo has anyone hunted here? Do's or don't do's?? lol.... I'm pumped regardless! I will be reading up from TPWD to be sure I'm 100% legal and what not, but I'd like to hear from someone that's familiar with the area.

I’ve hunted it 3 times, 2 archery and one youth hunt. Lots of deer and hogs. Seen some good bucks as well. A good climber or lock on is what you need. If acorns are on the ground, find the tree with the most sign and you will find the deer. Trails are easy to find. Good luck!!

Awesome to hear. Can you go down and drive the area out to look around and possibly scout? Or is it show up and make the best out of your time there?

I hunted the north unit a TON back in the 90's before it went to the draw system. Only needed the AHP permit. It floods frequently during that time of year and you should keep your fingers crossed they dont close the area. As mentioned its typical Savannah bottomland hunting, the woods are thick so seek out heavily used trails. Good luck.

That is a great draw. I hunt an adjacent property. The floods have really taken a toll on the herd down there but there are still some monsters around. Everone else points are spot on, hope the river doesn't get out before your hunt. Get up in a tree and wait, they will be post-rut at that time.

Good luck, some big deer down there

I've hunted the north once and the south once. Last year I was on the south. Saw a ton of ok 2-3 yo deer. The floods did wipe out some but this year should be good to get a 3-4 yo buck. They want you to shoot a 15 inch spread or wider and are pretty stern about it. I passed on a few that were probably 14 but we're in that 3yo age and will be good deer this year.

Have a friend who used to work there as a tech. They have seen some GOOD bucks down there on cameras.
Hope you get lucky!
