Tis' the season lets see 'em when you get camp set up. Here's our camp, most of it set up anyway. We have a 1 acre lot within the NF , a section of private split up into lots within the forest in a LQ elk area. Spouse's tag opens Tuesday, my cow tag opens Sept 15 for the same area. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/08/full-61217-248875-dscn0740_copy.jpg)

Love it, wish you both luck!!!

Yes, it's a Limited Quota area. His tag is archery only, 50 total tags for the archery only starting Sept 1-30.
There are 150 any elk tags that can hunt archery Sept 15-30 and then rifle Oct 1-Nov 30.
350 cow elk tags that are valid Sept 15-30 for archery and Oct 1 -Nov 30 for rifle, some of these are reduced price tags with rifle restrictions of off of Nat. Forest and the G&F wintering area, Wicke Unit.
He'll have the area to himself and 49 other hunters only for 2 weeks, however it is general deer and a few of those hunters will be around but not many at all. I plan to get a general deer license to hunt until my cow tag starts. Saw a nice 2 1/2 year old 3 pt muley Saturday at noon. Some decent blue grouse hunting too, black bear as well. Licenses for all will be in our pockets.

We went up and rode the UTV about 75 miles on Friday. today is opening day of archery deer and elk, and we were surprised not to see anyone camping yet. It is hot and dry, and super dusty. Bad for hunting. half of the springs and wallows I checked were dry, and the small creeks stopped running above ground a week ago. A cold front is moving in tonight, so maybe some evening showers and cooler weather. Can always hope!!
Beer and whiskey, 'cause you can't drink bacon!!

No elk down yet but the spouse found a good bull Wednesday after the weather broke. Heck of a snow storm for Sept 8. Wind and 10 inches blowing around. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-61217-251058-dscn3235_copy.jpg)

That pic is day after the storm, it snowed and blew about 40 mph for a whole day. The Tuesday pics are on the camera still hunting right now with the spouse. Made for a wet , messy drive out today. Going back up with supplies Saturday. Hoping to find a bull down when I get there.

Good Luck up there, not heading to Wyoming til October 14 and our camp will look a lot more like a cabin. Because its a cabin...Got tags for critters in 5 different units with only a little overlap so it will be interesting.

Here's a 3 day synopsis of the snow storm. We listened to the forecast ans were ready to hunker down and ride it out. Tuesday was a day of sitting and listening to the radio, Bigfoot 99.3 out of Saratoga plays a nice mix of older and obscure rock with newer stuff at night. They also have Dayweather, Don Day weather forecasts and that man is almost always right. He said 9-14 inches and we got about 10". I took these all at 10:00 am over 3 consecutive days. Elk country pics to follow. No bull down yet, they just aren't talking much, back up this weekend. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-61217-251990-dscn3205_copy.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-61217-251991-dscn0770_copy.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-61217-251992-dscn3235_copy.jpg)

Yep, our camp is within a section of privately owned lots in the NF. Most folks pout pout bird feeders and mineral blocks to watch the wildlife, so this fall a big black bear has been causing problems for a few cabin owners, one guy shot at one that did not flee his warnings, another cabin lady has issues as well. I believe G&F may have come out with a trap for the problem bear as we saw a biologist's truck in the "neighborhood". Spouse found the young bear tracks through our lot and he checked out my privy. He scooted the seat over and looked in, I had a trash bag over the seat to keep snow off of it. I have a bear tag and the season opened Sept 15. with a sow quota. Lots of bait sites sets just north of our lot area. We see sign all over. My cow tag is open now so I get to hunt elk finally with the spouse. Back at it this weekend and then last full week in season. We also have cow elk tags for the ranch we manage. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-61217-252209-dscn0772_copy.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-61217-252210-dscn0774_copy.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/09/full-61217-252211-dscn0778_copy.jpg)

Cow elk eat great too, I shot one a few years ago that was larger than most of the bulls brought into camp. I'd take a cow anyday! Hope y'all have a great time ![cheers cheers](/forum/images/graemlins/default/cheers.gif)

Hopefully your camp isn't near the mullen fire. We're getting ash and smoke in Cheyenne from it. Savage run and the the Platte river wilderness' are bbq. Lots of dead fall in that country for fuel.

Hunter307 we're in area 11. I'm afraid many cabins and homes may have been lost yesterday and last night.

Hunter307 we're in area 11. I'm afraid many cabins and homes may have been lost yesterday and last night. Good to hear. I was hunting in the pass creek basin for speedgoat the day after the Mullen fire started. Was super smokey. Got a doe tag to fill but the last three days of sage grouse season will be spent hunting birds. A bunch of country is going to burn, I guess it was going to happen eventually. Last time I was in the Platte wilderness in 2016 the blow downs and standing dead was incredible.
