I was wondering what I should do with the deer stand that blew over on to our ranch. The guys next to us never have talked to them but they put a deer stand on the fence line and it blew over and came over the fence and it's just laying there what should I do with it??

Do you have your neighbor's contact number(s)? Call them and tell them. Help them out if possible. Never pass-up a chance to get in some good PR with your neighbors, especially if they are hunters.

Does the stand on the fenceline bother you? If so, after you've established that good relationship, you might convince them to move it futher in.

Orn is right but I'd probably move it to a better location on my place and send them a bill for the fence repairs

It is a bad deal when they don't talk to you about it. Not right and I hate it, too.

But, depending on the lay of the land, where it is and who's hunting where, a stand on the fenceline could be good for both parties.

Example: My neighbor's place at the river is not very wide, but almost a mile long. On the northeast corner of his place, where it meets mine, I can't put a stand because of the creek - but would be a great place for him. He came over, we walked it out and I agreed with him. It covers an area that I don't and probably will never hunt, and puts him in a perfect spot.

I thought about that and was gonna post it but then i thought... If they're the type of people who are gonna get agitated because you locked up their blown over stand, your liable to have a cut fence when you get back. Hope you get it all worked out.

after you give it back to them, then set up a deer stand on your property right by their stand

Plus one on that. Always good to have a good neighbor policy. Never know when something may happen at your place and they may see it and give you a call.

It would be way better to help them get it back and maybe get friendly w/ them. Then, if they're a-holes just go ahead and kick their ace.

Contact them and tell them they have to pay for the fence that they caused damage to, that way after they fix the problem they'll realize that putting a blind up on your fenceline was a bad idea.

Really need to know if you are the landowner and if the owner of the stand is the landowner. If both are just leasing the land for hunting then it really is none of your business, it is the landowners property that was damaged.

He needs to contact the landowner that the stand is on. If the stand is owned by a hunter that is leasing the land the landowner needs to get him to make things right.

I like that idea, kind of like a good neighbor program. Makes for improved neighbor relations.

You might try to eat some smokin hot chili about 2 hrs before you go out to the land, then you can leave them a nice lil present.......all kidding aside...right or wrong, ethical or not..you should just make every attempt to maintain the high road in the situation. Getting the landowner involved in a civil manner to come to a positive solution will only help you improve relations across the board. Best of luck to you!

..........

I find the phrase "YOUR FENCE LINE" to be a little funny!

Fences make good neighbors, and the reason it does is what you do on your own side of the fence is your business
, and what they do on their side is theirs.

There is absolutely nothing you can do to require a neighbor to place his blind anyplace as long as it is placed on his side of the fence. The only problem here is that it blew over onto your land, your only choice is to throw it back on his property.

Now to the fence! Do we know who owns the fence? Is it yours, or his? Or is it jointly owned between both land owners? If it is yours, and damage is done to it by the stand blowing over on the fence, talk to the land owner, and ask him to pay for fixing the fence. If it is his offer to help him fix the fence, and ask that he fix his stand so that it doesn't blow over again. If the fence is jointly owned, and his stand did the damage, he is responsible for the fix, but a good neighbor would at least offer to help with the work.

There is nothing wrong with placing a stand on a fence line, as long as you don't shoot onto the neighbor's land. All shooting windows should be open only to your land. You have the same option, and as someone above suggested, I would place his stand back on his property, and build one right at the same spot on your side of the fence.

I would place the stand back on his property, and leave a note with your name & phone No. asking him to give you a call on the matter! A HATFIELDS & McCOY feud is not something any thinking landowner wants with his neighbor! A little common courtesy and dialog with the neighbor may be very beneficial to both sides of this affaire!
