I've been to many, many guitar stores and guitar conventions.
When it comes to "guitars," the dealers at stores or conventions are open to negotiating, especially if you have "cash."
They would rather consider negotiating than to just let cash walk away from the counter.

I'm curious, does that apply to "gun stores and conventions?"

If you walk into a gun store, is the price on the tag simply the price, that's it, or can you make an offer and it will be considered?

I've never known. Thanks!

You can make offers, you can request some extras at a discounted price, no one will be offended.

It works in pawn shops. I’m sure it would work in smaller independent Gun stores. Doubtful in the bigger chains but you don’t know until you ask....

Back in the 80s I negotiated with a sales dude at Foot Locker.

I said, "I want these shoes, but at that price," and I pointed to another box with a cheaper tag.
It worked.

I'll give it a go. There's a small gun store in Plano that has something I'm interested in, and I see they have a few, but the price tag is inflated...like most guns these days.

Thanks...

It totally depends on what the item is, if it's new or used, and what the cost is. With my FFL dealer pricing, I can make about $20-$40 on a new Glock. But it depends on which model and a few other things. Most new items would not be negotiable. Used, maybe. But right now when business is crazy and you're lucky if a gun store has what you need, what's the incentive for them to negotiate right now?

When I go to buy a gun I have a printout from an online gunshop with a price I'm willing to pay. They will usually get close to that price.

Good idea...I'm looking at a Walther PK 380, .380 Nickel/stainless.

I'll give it a go with the Plano shop, but if I could find a used one, I'd consider that as well.

You definitely can....I have negotiated successfully at every gun store I've bought from, minus Academy.

In general, all gun stores are usually willing to negotiate or price match. For every 1 that you find that won't, there are 5 that will. It's no different than when they put something on sale, there are times when they'll budge on something and times where they may not. Like above, no harm or offense in asking...
Also, if it's a "small" gun store like you say... i'll bet they will for sure.
But the point Chad makes is right on... supply and demand generate price point, so right now, there may be NO incentive to negotiate because if you don't buy it, the guy behind you probably will.

Go check out grabagun.com you will be hard pressed to beat their prices... You can buy it online and pick it up in Coppell.

The key to negotiation is knowing what the other party can and can't do. While you could buy it somewhere else for a lower price, the store owner may have no problem selling it for the asking price given the way things are right now.

I’ve gotten a few deals from grabagun but lately they are high on everything.

As stated, I wouldn't mind a "used Walther PK380 nickel" either.

...thanks

I haggled Nagel’s (San Antonio) down a pretty good bit on a Glock G40 a few years ago. With gun sales through the roof currently, not much incentive for a shop to take a discount. Can’t hurt to try, though.

Congratulations. I've never bought much there and never a gun. Sure they're one of the oldest, but they always acted like the only.

Yep, Nagel's is real proud of their stuff, but the one on the South side, I think it's Drury's is even more proud.

On used guns at Cabela's I have negotiated the price down.
Guns they have had a long time and not in demand they will drop the price.

I dont ever have a problem with customers wanting to negotiate, but the people above who said right now isnt a great time to try it are spot on. Also, being aware of what dealers can/need to do is a pretty helpful tool. If you ask for 20% off on a new gun, at best youll probably get laughed at. If you ask for a discount (or free ammo) on an AR or any handgun in 9mm right now, you'll probably just get a hard and fast no. That being said, always happy to price match, always happy to check what used guns are due for a markdown anyways.

I always try to finagle a lower price at the local shops.
