okay all you 7mm Magnum shooters.

I'm thinking about a Nilgai hunt next winter. I now have this 7mm Magnum. Many of the Nilgai outfitters say nothing less than a .30 caliber Magnum caliber can be used. I understand, many of their clients just go cuz they got big $$ and are not shooters/hunters. I'm sure the guides are tired of chaising "azz shot" nilgai all around the ranch.

So, I have found a really good outfitter and he said I could shoot my 7mm Mag. Should I just buy some premium factory LR Accubonds, Barnes solid copper? Or load my own?

If I do load my own, what would you chootem with?

Accubonds, Barnes TTSX, Swift Scirocco, Swift A-frame, are all good choices and will give you plenty of penetration and expansion. Personal choice is A-frame. All work.

Like the A-Frame Swift. They get great reviews.

Now what weight in the 7Mag?
140
150
160
175

That's what I would think, wasn't sure if the 175 was for the BIG 7mm's, 28 Nolser, etc.

Fireman shot the 180's around 3000 fps out of his.

Hell i shoot 175's out of a 7mm08. I very much like the on game performance of heavy for cal bullets at moderate velocities. With an A-frame forget about the moderate velocity part, drive them as fast as you can and still shoot well. Personally I would save a little money and get 175 partitions but yall know me im a partition groupie.

I used the 160gr partition for elk in the 7mmSTW, it worked well for them add pronghorn and deer to over 500 yards with same rifle.

A to factory ammo I have friends that used trophy bonded bear claw bullets in their 7 Mags on elk with no complaints.

You can drive A-frames fast. Factory 160's are 2900 fps and that's fast enough. I shoot my 06 180's at 2800 and never had an issue with penetration, even on much larger game in Africa.

Load some 175 Partitions or 175 A-Frames and you will bee good to go. Factory ammunitions in the heavies are hard to find and limited.

I'll be using 250 grain Accubonds in my 9.3x62.

Or you could build a new Nilgai rifle.

You have a year to obsess over every detail. Post dozens of threads about what caliber, rifle, optic. This would be perfect for you.

For me, I have shot elk, mule deer and whitetail along with a few coyotes, 160 gr Nozler partition. About 2850 fps, worked excellent every time.

Buzz, It’s hard to argue with heavy for caliber on big animals and a 175 partition out of a 7 mag is strong.

I think you got it figured out.

I've killed over 50 african animals with my 7mag and 160 AB's running about 3000'. Hit 'em in the right place and you'll have no problem whatsoever killing a nilgai.

the 160 grain accubond would be my choice. I shot 160 grain swift A-frames in my 7mm mag

The .30 caliber rule i'm sure came from clients shooting at running animals out of a high rack and making poor shots.

a 7mm mag with crumple a standing Nilgai. One thing though.....study a chart on Nilgai because their vitals are not in the same spot as a whitetail.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

7828 and a 175 is a what rem introduced the 7 RM with. RL-22 has shot better for me in every 7 RM I’ve tried it in.
RL-26 Will be as hard to find as Retumbo and works about as well with the heavies. Nosler lists RL-22 as the most accurate powder tested for 175-185 grain projectiles.

Which has been the most accurate, these bullets usually are not known for very good accuracy. If you guys have found an accuracy load with the Heavy copper/bonded bullets

probably 300 yard shot max,
