Anyone ever been? My Dad's aunt has a house close to the lake that we've been offered to use numerous times but just never went. Now that she's getting into her 90s and her husband has passed she never goes up there anymore and is more or less begging family to use it. Thinking about planing a trip once all this COVID bs settles down.

Good fishing up there? It sounds like it's pretty close to skiing at Taos and Angel Fire - wife has never been, so that's definitely on the list too. Any good places to eat in town?

Great little town and is only 15-20 minutes from Red River or Angel Fire. Lake has good fishing and right now is a perfect time to go get out of the 100+ degree temps. Go and enjoy!!

Take Care,
Bub

Beautiful country there. It's been a long time since I have been there though so I have no idea what it's like now. I'd love to go back but with my wifes inner ear problem she couldn't handle the elevation changes.

Great little vacation town for both summer and winter activities. Been there a dozen times or more over the years. Trout fishing in Eagle Nest Lake can be good, but suggest renting a boat or hiring a guide. You can actually go ice fishing there in the winter. Angel Fire Ski Resort is very family oriented and great for beginning and intermediate skiers. Lot's of good hiking and jeep trails. Cafes are OK at best. Better food options if you drive to Angel Fire or Red River.

Definitely would go. I personally wouldn't worry about the covid restrictions, just my opinion. I have been to Red River twice this month. Have also stayed in Eagle Nest a couple years ago and my son lived there for about 6 months while working in Red River. Really nice place and nice people too.

Thanks for the info. May try to go in January or Feb since she's never been skiing. We've got two trips planned already in September and October and the wife is about out of vacation time for this year anyways.

we owned a house in Angel Fire for years. Eagles Nest is a great fishing lake - get a guide - some big brownies in there.

Red River has more to do as far as restaurants etc than Angle Fire or Eagles Nest and not a bad drive. Enjoy

Great place. We always stay in Red River. If you hike then head to Red River and turn left as you enter town to the Upper Valley. Middle Fork Lake & Lost Lake are a couple of the most beautiful hikes in north America.

I haven't been in 20 years but we stayed at a place called Sipapu not far from there and drift fished the lake in our pontoon boat. Caught some really nice rainbow trout out of that lake. Can't wait to take my son up there when he gets a little older.

Been through there many times. Why let covid slow you down?
Buy a 5 day fishing license and bring a couple of poles, you wont regret it. I'll even volunteer to drive you :-)

Also, take some of you favorite long range rifles with you and plan a visit to the Whittington Center. Call first to make sure there isnt a competition on the silhouette range. That way you reach out and touch ole Whitey the buffalo at 1300 yards.

Oh yeah, Chile outta be roasting on every street corner in Espanola right now.
